I have read dozens of outraged posts because the US special envoy Witkoff called Putin a "humanist." But no one is writing about the fact that the American negotiators are simply not doing their job. Let me explain. Peace negotiations are important in their own right. Even if they do not lead to a lasting peace, the process itself is an opportunity to resolve urgent humanitarian issues. If, of course, the human dimension is a priority for the negotiators. But it is entirely obvious that neither Witkoff nor Kushner cares about people's fates in this war. The Pope calls on Putin to save thousands of people from starvation in occupied Oleshky and the surrounding villages. The UN speaks about a humanitarian catastrophe and asks Russia to allow the evacuation of the civilian population. European Parliament Vice-President Pina Picierno goes on a hunger strike to draw attention to this tragedy unfolding before the eyes of the whole world. And what are Witkoff and Kushner doing? That's right, almost nothing. Except for passing along greetings from Putin’s aide to the First Lady. Thousands of people are already eating grass to survive and begging to save their lives. The Ukrainian side raises the issue of Oleshky at every meeting. And I can name dozens of such urgent humanitarian issues off the top of my head where American negotiators must be proactive. Trump’s peace negotiations have already gone down in history as the deadliest years for Ukraine’s civilian population since the start of the full-scale invasion. I don’t know if anyone will remember the names of Witkoff and Kushner. But history will certainly record how American negotiators, who had the opportunity to save a huge number of people, refused to raise uncomfortable questions before "humanist Putin."

This story is extremely important: A whistleblower revealed that Brazil's far-right Bolsonaro family dynasty met with Meta to discuss US plans to interfere in Brazil's election, to prevent Lula from winning. Lula's Facebook and Instagram accounts were censored a few days before the first round of the presidential election. This had a huge impact on the election, because Facebook, Instagram, and WhatsApp, which are all owned by Meta, are the most popular apps in Brazil, and are hugely influential all across Latin America. (Jair Bolsonaro's son Flávio was declared the winner of the first round of the vote, by a narrow margin.) Meta later admitted that Lula's accounts had been restricted, but it claimed that this was supposedly due to a "technical error"... The whistleblower who disclosed this is Nadia Beller, a Bolivian journalist who was almost killed by hitmen hired by Fernando Cerimedo, a far-right Argentine political operative who oversees election interference, bots, and disinformation campaigns. Cerimedo is closely linked to the US government and has worked for pretty much every right-wing leader in Latin America. He was photographed with Donald Trump Jr. and members of the Bolsonaro family, and he received an award at Trump's Mar-a-Lago resort in Florida a few months before he was arrested for the failed assassination attempt against Beller, his pregnant ex-girlfriend. Just because multilateralism is on its knees does not mean we should give up on it. We risk forgetting where it comes from. It was ‘Never again’ to prevent genocides and atrocity crimes that led to the development of regional and international systems. There is no plan B: if we lose multilateralism, we will have no alternative in terms of decent relationship between states or support for our human rights as individuals. @coe @UN @UNHumanRights @WarsawForum @FundPulaskiego

Russia wants to destroy Ukraine. Its relentless, brutal attacks are killing civilians in their homes, on buses and in the streets. The world must rally around Ukraine and provide all the military and air defence support it needs. #Ukraine cannot be left to face this alone.

"He doesn’t understand the people. He is a true Soviet KGB officer. A bit of an antisemite, a bit of a fascist. Not very intelligent. And he does not understand that people have rights. He is a president who simply doesn’t give a damn about his own citizens." - This is how journalist Anna Politkovskaya described Putin. Anna Politkovskaya was killed in Moscow 20 years ago, on Putin’s birthday. Twenty years after her murder, the EU once again called for all those responsible to be identified and brought to justice. Six people were convicted in Russia for their involvement in the crime, but those who ordered the killing have still not been found. 📹: BBC

1️⃣ The motion writes its own definition of Zionism: the pursuit of ‘an ethnonationalist Jewish State…to the exclusion and/or domination of the non-Jewish population’. It then rules Zionism is racism. About 2/3 of Jews consider themselves zionists; they're now all racists.

Flávio Bolsonaro won Brazil's first round, promising to ‘resgatar a democracia’, rescue democracy 🇧🇷 His campaign uses the word democracy to defend his father, jailed for plotting to overturn the 2022 election ⬛️ Here is how the campaign takes over the language of rights ⤵️

Egypt is a brutal dictatorship, but the Trump State Department waived human rights conditions for $300+ million of military aid to Egypt because of Cairo's "helpful role" with Trump's disastrous war of choice against Iran. trib.al/6yxxj8Z

Ambassador, there are no cases against US troops right now. There should not be any in fact if the US judiciary system is prepared to investigate any allegations of violations of international or US law by US military personnel or the chain of command. The principle of complementarity is central to the ICC implementation of its mandate. On the other hand, the current US threats, attacks, sanctions, against the ICC and its personnel (for doing their job) constitute a major impediment to the delivery of justice for millions around the world who are dependent on the ICC.
I have a tremendous amount of respect for @MinPres Prime Minister Jetten. To our Dutch allies I say, we are happy to keep our hands off the #ICC... if it keeps its hands off the United States. Our objections to the Court are bipartisan. Presidents of both parties have declined to submit the Rome Statute for ratification. Our troops, tens of thousands of which are guarding Europe as part of an 80+ year security commitment, and the rest of our citizens, should not be subject to a politicized Court. Full stop.

Americans are freeing political prisoners. Lukashenka keeps putting new ones behind bars. Now he is trying to convince that those newly arrested are not political prisoners. But human rights defenders show the pattern: for Lukashenka, political prisoners are bargaining chips
