Less deep carbon under #Kernza - counter to all the claims that a deep rooted perennial will increase soil carbon. Priming speculated to be to blame. As @SoilLife said, "its complicated"
Check out new OA paper led by @SoilLife, @samaddars, and I 🌾 Main takeaway — depth matters! Annual wheat vs. #Kernza stored carbon at different depths in the soil profile & hosted distinct soil fungal communities primarily in the rhizosphere & topsoil.
