A disappointing move from the government. The UK urgently needs a new law to make sure human rights abuses are kept out of supply chains - by holding businesses and the public sector to account if they are found. Add your voice to the petition here: action.transform-trade.org/h…
Housing Minister Matthew Pennycook appears to confirm the government will be voting down amendments from Peers which would try to stop human rights abuses within supply chains for GB Energy. He tells @NickFerrariLBC "we don't think that's the most appropriate way to tackle this issue" Adds: "We take human rights abuses, modern slavery in supply chains extremely seriously… "The story has come about as a result of a story about an amendment to putting requirements on GB Energy specifically, we don't think that's the most appropriate way to tackle this issue. But we are focused on ensuring that we're not buying from supply chains where forced labour is involved."
