Who bears the burden when new sustainability rules demand more data from farmers?
This afternoon, SEATINI and Transform Trade are convening the webinar “Putting Farmers First: Inclusive Data Governance for EUDR and UKFRC Compliance.”
As new deforestation-related requirements increase demands for traceability and farm-level data, smallholder farmers and producer organisations are increasingly being asked to provide the information needed to demonstrate compliance.
But this raises important questions: Who pays for data collection and verification? Who owns and controls farmers' data? How is consent protected? And how do we ensure compliance systems do not become another barrier to market access for smallholders?
Today's discussion is examining how data governance and traceability systems can meet regulatory requirements while protecting farmers' rights, interests and continued participation in global value chains.

🌲 Today's announcement from the UK Government on tackling deforestation-linked commodities is an important step forward.
Mandatory due diligence can help protect forests, tackle climate change and create greater accountability in global supply chains.
🗣️ Communities need a voice. Farmers and forest communities should be able to raise complaints and access remedy when their rights are violated.

Overseas growers should not be impoverished when selling to the UK.
We need fair business practices.

This survey by @riverford is damning - over two thirds of UK famers feel their relationship with retailers has worsened over the last two years.
It's a similar story for farmers in countries around the world that supply the UK market.

Calls for a #JustTransition at #COP30 are key for women workers in India and across the world - enabling them to become more resilient to climate shocks by building social protection systems that secure their livelihoods.
Proposals by G77+China and the EU have already positioned #JustTransition as a cornerstone of global climate implementation at #COP30.
Mansi Shah is in Belém to ensure a JT mechanism helps build social protection systems for millions of Indian women.

To mark #WorldFoodDay, we’re calling on the UK Government to make sure new deforestation laws work with farmers, not against them.
The food and drink we love most - chocolate, coffee, and more - depends on millions of smallholder farmers.
But right now, they risk being cut out of the very markets they depend on.
The UK is introducing new laws to tackle deforestation. These are important steps for our planet - but unless they’re designed fairly, they could pile extra costs onto farmers.
That’s not just unfair. It undermines the fight against climate change.
