In a desert 1,000 years ago, the Chimú people built a city that would become the biggest in the Americas. Chan Chan was an engineering marvel, and some 12,000 artisans lived there. At last, Peru’s great urban experiment has archaeologists’ attention.

UPDATE: We estimate that Trump has now filed up to $1,256,000,000 of trades since May.
This would be more than everyone in Congress COMBINED has filed in the last TWO YEARS.

Not to add to the discourse, but…
It’s ‘toe the line,’ not ‘tow the line.’
It’s ‘free rein,’ and not ‘free reign.’
It’s ‘eke out,’ not ‘eek out.’
It’s ‘sleight of hand,’ not ‘slight of hand.’
It's ‘Anchors aweigh,’ and not ‘Anchor's away!’

The chilling thing about the Trump administration falsely accusing David Hearn is what it reveals: they have no hesitation targeting ordinary American citizens when it serves their agenda. It’s the same playbook they used with Alex Pretti, Renee Good, and countless others. The pattern is unmistakable. When the truth becomes inconvenient, they pick a citizen, invent a villain, and count on the wreckage to advance their interests. This is an administration willing to inflict real harm on ordinary people to protect its own power.

I was alive for redlining, segregation, the shootings of King, Evers, Wallace, JFK, RFK, Malcolm X, the violence against the Freedom Riders, Emmit Till, and more. I was bused as a child.
Those things aren't "ancient" history. They had a real impact on my life's trajectory.

@PatrickByrne did not work alone “fabricat[ing] awesome and farfetched narratives to garner attention in the media” to defame me and damage my father’s presidency in the service of @realDonaldTrump.
In December of 2020 Byrne was in the Oval Office, urging the President to seize voting machines. Steve Bannon was in the Willard Hotel war room promoting the same lies. Byrne spent $40M of his own money, including $27M to The American Project and millions to the J6 protestors for fines and fees and living expenses for their families. Bannon ran the same cause every morning on @Bannons_WarRoom.
They pushed the same lies on the same targets for the same years. Stop the Steal and The Hunter Biden Laptop conspiracy were all a part of the same operation.
The court described their methods last week in my win over Byrne. I’m writing about all of it on my Substack.
Here’s an excerpt:
“In April 2019, Bannon texted Epstein his three-step plan: ‘first we need to push back on the lies; then crush the pedo/trafficking narrative; then rebuild your image as philanthropist.’
The three-step playbook he texted to Epstein in April 2019 is worth reading again alongside what he did with the laptop material sixteen months later.
For Epstein: push back on the ‘lies,’ crush the pedo/trafficking narrative, rebuild the image as philanthropist.
For the laptop: fabricate the folders, distribute the altered sex pictures, use the @nypost’s @mirandadevine to launder it into credibility.
The method is identical. The target changes. The practitioner does not.”
The record exists. Read it on my Substack. Link in the replies.

This is one of the most powerful videos I have ever seen. Inspired by the March of a Thousand Robes in Poland, retired and sitting judges in the United States walked down the streets of Columbus to stand up for the Rule of Law.

From the Washington Post:
“American farmers can expect a bumper crop this year in corn, soybeans and, most of all, federal handouts.”
There’s a term for government intervention and subsidization . . . what’s the word I’m searching for? I suppose the term that’s currently en vogue in Republican circles to fearmonger anything that doesn’t empower and enrich the oligarchs is communism, but in the not too distant past the scare word was socialism. And there are few groups that wear more red MAGA hats and get more fired up about socialism (and I guess now communism) than farmers . . . but while government checks for others are derided as evil, government checks for them seem to be welcomed.
The government is already providing 44 billion dollars in handouts to farmers and, if Trump’s supplemental request for an additional 11 billion is approved, it will climb to 55 billion dollars. As the Post article notes, “(m)ost of the subsidies are intended as compensation for the White House’s own policies.”
This year, more than a quarter of farm income will be from taxpayer funded handouts from the federal government, and that’s due largely to the harm done to farmers by the federal government. Oh, and the federal government is propping up meat packers with another half billion dollars due to the shortage of and high cost of meat.
So, the government has plenty of money for handouts to farmers to help them with the damage government policy blunders did to their markets, but the government is slashing money for programs that helped ordinary Americans keep their heads above water. I guess selective socialism is okay with the Republicans.
And from the Wall Street Journal: “The trade gap in goods and services widened by 42.2% in May from the prior month to a seasonally adjusted $77.6 billion, the Commerce Department said Tuesday. . . Exports fell 3.2% in May, led by a large decline in sales of gold to overseas buyers.”
But not to fear. The stable genius — who made at least 2.2 billion dollars last year while toiling 24/7 for farmers and the working class — has his 747 sky palace, his gold plated statues, his forthcoming ballroom, his multiple foreign business ventures, ample time for golf at your expense at his resorts, and his signature on your currency . . . and he’s doing it all for you.
God bless America!
Two hundred and fifty years ago, a group of Americans signed their names to a piece of parchment and made a promise no nation had ever made before: that we're all created equal, endowed by our Creator with unalienable rights — life, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness.
We're the only nation in history built not on ethnicity, or blood, or geography but on an idea. That's always been what makes us exceptional. We chose that path 250 years ago but that’s where the work began, not where it ended. Every generation has had to choose it again. At Valley Forge, at Gettysburg, on the beaches of Normandy, in the streets of Selma. Americans recommitted themselves to the principles on which our nation was founded.
Now it's our turn.
There's nothing guaranteed about our democracy. We have to fight for it, defend it, and earn it. Over and over, year after year. That's not a burden. That's what it means to be an American.
250 years in, we still haven't fully lived up to those words in the Declaration. But we've never walked away from them, and this July 4, I hope all of us can commit to one thing: that we never will. I don't believe we're as divided as we're told we are. I've bet my whole life on the American people, and I'm not stopping now.
Happy 250th birthday, America. Our story isn't finished. Let's keep writing it together.

America is a constant work in progress. Every generation must take up the unfinished work of the last and carry it further—protecting what’s right, fixing what’s wrong, and making our union a little more perfect. 250 years later, that’s more important than ever.

It's actually mind-boggling that @JDVance would say Watergate would be a "10 hour story" today.
Just to review, Nixon's aides authorized a break-in of the DNC HQ to install bugging equipment--in a caper foiled by a night watchman, who called police. They then enlisted the CIA to mislead the FBI that the break-in was related to a probe of malign foreign actors.
The entire operation was paid for by a slush fund controlled by the WH.
The WH also enlisted the IRS to probe hundreds of Nixon's political enemies.
The AG, the WH COS and several other top aides all were convicted and served time for their involvement in the crimes and coverup.
Nixon was caught on his own secret tape system conspiring with them but was pardoned a month after he resigned by his successor, Gerald Ford.
That Vance thinks this would be a "10 hour story" today speaks volumes about the moral and ethical degradation of the Trump era.
