How should higher education prepare students for a future that extends beyond their first job?
In his article for BW Education, Prof. Dishan Kamdar, Vice-Chancellor of FLAME University, reflects on why a degree must offer more than immediate job readiness and the role of higher education in preparing students for a changing world.
At FLAME, an interdisciplinary approach to education encourages students to look beyond disciplinary boundaries and develop perspectives that extend across careers and contexts.

Can AI make student conversations better instead of replacing them?
Tue Nielson, Director of SmartLearning, Denmark, shares his experience working with the Centre for Digital Learning at FLAME University. Together, we are building a product where AI steps in only to improve the quality of student conversations, drawing on the Centre’s research on how and when to intervene in a group dialogue.
The product was originally developed with the University of Cambridge and is now in the testing and research phase.

Career readiness begins with self-awareness and the ability to translate it into purposeful action.
At FLAME University, ME360 is an experiential career-readiness initiative that connects the breadth of a liberal education with the evolving realities of the professional world.Through industry leadership panels, interactive workshops, career-focused sessions and alumni interactions, students explored what it takes to navigate professional journeys with clarity, confidence and intention.
From understanding employer expectations and exploring AI’s role in the future of work to strengths assessment, career mapping, personal branding, LinkedIn, professional etiquette, communication and emotional intelligence, the sessions encouraged students to connect their individual strengths and values with industry needs. Conversations with industry practitioners and alumni offered insights into diverse career pathways, workplace expectations and leadership across sectors, while practical exercises helped students reflect on their aspirations and plan their next steps.
While the undergraduate bootcamp focused on the transition from campus to corporate life, the postgraduate Career Academy emphasised professional identity, interpersonal effectiveness and purposeful career planning. Together, the programmes reflect ME360’s central idea: preparing for a career is not simply about securing a first opportunity, but about developing the self-awareness, adaptability and judgement to navigate a changing professional landscape.
The sessions featured industry leaders, practitioners and alumni, including Satish Pai (@DataGeekSatish), Prabhakar Shetty, Srinivas Jain, Sanjay Jain, Jyoti Priyadarshi, Sailesh Kumar, Swati Shinde, Amit Upadhyay, Rahoul Joshii, Muddassir Shaikh, Asmita Alat, Ameet Kakar Thakur, Chetan Shah, Aabha Gupta, Komal Goenka, Nikhil Bhojwani, Akshay Kunkulol, Sanyucta Sisodia and Adarsh Nigam. Contributions from FLAME faculty and facilitators included Prof. Venkataramanan, Dr. Saumya Sharma, Tamosi Moitra Sarkar and Prof. Bharat Damani, alongside Salil from VMock. Alumni voices included Anukriti Goyal, Abhramika Choudhuri and Karan Sarda, with the programme also featuring interactions with a wider network of alumni across industries.
From campus curiosity to corporate readiness.
From demographic change to environmental risks, FLAME faculty share their perspectives on issues shaping society and public policy.
