😍Planting between the old row preserves the stubble.

We are seeding our “poor man’s drain tile” Rye cover crop into corn stalks. We are anticipating a wet spring & this cover will get us into the field quicker & have a better seed bed than not planting it. If it’s dry we just terminate the cover before it’s knee high & plant

Agree! Doesn't seem to be a lot of farms taking this approach though... Slowing down the stalk rolls also helps with butt shelling when corn dries too fast.

To the extent that aggregate stability reflects soil structure, this is good news: stability is not highly related to soil C, but rather to tillage intensity. Improve soil structure by reducing tillage; no C increase needed. From @soil_institute soilhealthinstitute.org/dr-k…

It's nice to see fields preserving their stubble and keeping a nice seedbed for the next crop.

Concaves are the closing wheels of the combine world now.

This N542C put 16,000 acres on our new ext. length Main Pin & Bushings with only 3/16" of side movement on the row unit .vs. A&I with 4000 acres at 1/8" of play.

Anyone plant with their JD planter in the fall for wheat or cover crops?

Finished 72 rows to make this 1890 better than new. The weights are even in the right place!

Nutrients follow the water... no-till, cover crop field. Need fertility that doesn't leave. Starter plus some N applied with the planter.

Very very dry , but seed must go in ground at consistent depth , direct seeding

Who uses scrapers on their opener blades? Have you ever gone without? If the gauge wheels are set tight to the blade its less of an issue.

On Farm Research scouting yesterday got the season off to a great start! Seed firmer trial showed some very interesting results in greatly reducing late emerging plants! So much to learn in your fields right as they emerge. Worth braving the wind and cold.... many of the observations will be hidden in 7-10 when the corn and soybeans are bigger with the heat coming..

OEM cast wheels left this furrow wide open — zero closure. Our team spotted it during a recent inspection & knew exactly what was missing: Thompson Closing Wheels. Aggressive furrow closing, self-limiting depth #ExaptaSolutions #ThompsonWheels #FurrowClosing #JDUpgrade #NoTill
