Damien and Vance to a good job in this podcast explaining the issue. And at the end they don't offer a simple solution, because there isn't one. This is worth your time to listen IMO.

We are seeding our “poor man’s drain tile” Rye cover crop into corn stalks.
We are anticipating a wet spring & this cover will get us into the field quicker & have a better seed bed than not planting it.
If it’s dry we just terminate the cover before it’s knee high & plant
2027 wheat planting is getting close to the end for us. We ran short of seed due to later than expected plant dates, thus increasing the seeding rate. It wasn’t easy to find the seed we wanted as it was all gone. YOY acres should be up in my area.
SDSU planted their CPT wheat plots in one of our wheat fields yesterday. We are big believers in on farm research.
Their drill has the same basic openers as our JD airseeder.
2027 wheat is going in the ground. Getting a late start but rolling hard to catch up. Hoping for a warm October & November so we get good crown root development before freeze up.
Soybean harvest is just starting in my area. Not many guys rolling yet.
But both rail loaders & the crush plant in my backyard are open all weekend. Even Sunday. There’s also a truck house looking hard to buy beans.
In my 35 years of farming I have never seen the competition to purchase beans this strong during harvest.
My scouting partner is pretty pleased with our covercrop growth in the wheat stubble this early.
They are cycling nutrients and keeping the biology pumping. The seed bed for the corn next spring will be awesome.
Textbook example of policy risk. And something, as farmers, we haven’t dealt with very much.

Spending some cash on improving the land this fall. This 1/4 has been on our list to tile for a while now.
A former employee of ours from South Africa was in town this weekend. He brought his dad with & toured our farm after they attended the Farm Progress show.
We just had dinner & chatted about CTF, covercrops, no-till, rotations & other farm advances that he had never thought of until he worked for us 10 years ago. Really fun conversation. I’m glad he & his family are doing well.
This wins AgX today 🥇
I don’t think the biggest #crop-insurance story is farmers buying more coverage.
It’s what happens when Washington makes downside risk cheaper.
More protection can mean:
More borrowing capacity.
Higher rent bids.
More input spending.
More aggressive expansion.
The check may go to the producer.
But the economic value may travel much farther.
Change the price of risk and eventually you change behavior.
And if you change behavior across enough acres, you can start changing the economics of the entire industry.
Team store and ignore, grain bag division still holding in my area. The one bag has been split open for ~3 months.
Be proactive on buying crop inputs for the 2027 crop. Don’t rely on a sales agronomist to call you with what he or she thinks is a good price.
Watch prices, shop around, and buy layers of inputs much like layering crop sales.
