🇨🇦 The father of 12-year-old Kylie Smith, one of the victims killed in the Tumbler Ridge Secondary School shooting in British Columbia, shared this emotional plea in an interview with CTV News, accompanied by a photo of his daughter. Kylie was a beautiful soul who loved art and anime, and never hurt anyone."You want to put someone’s picture up on the news? Put my daughter’s picture up... Let’s stop giving this psychopath the recognition, because these kids were lost before they got to become teenagers. Let’s put these pictures up, remember them and not this murderer." Please keep Kylie, her family, and all the victims of this tragedy in your thoughts and prayers. 🙏

Had a private meeting today with one of Canada’s top CEOs in Toronto. We shared a common view of the world. I left the meeting struck by how many Canadian food companies feel completely misunderstood, facing constant finger-pointing and “gouging” accusations. The most devastating legacy of the last decade in Canada is the growing disconnect: too many Canadians no longer understand why companies exist—why food companies exist. These businesses provide value, innovate, and perform miracles every day when confronted with economic or geopolitical adversity. They also give generously to charity, contributions that are too often forgotten. Too many Canadians today are financially and data illiterate, and it’s hurting our public discourse about the food economy. I love Canada, but this is one part I don’t like: seeing more and more Canadians dismiss, even attack, what our businesses—from farmgate to plate—do every single day to feed us and the world. It’s a shame.

💡Crazy fact—Huntington’s Disease was infamously the worst disease with 100% genetic penetrance—ie you were 100% doomed to develop it with no treatment/cure if you carried the gene 🧬—but now there is finally a treatment for it, thanks to science. Don’t defund medical research!
In med school, I learned that Huntington's disease was one of the most devastating inherited conditions. It caused progressive neurological decline, starting around age 30. There was no treatment. Now, Huntington's has been treated for first time. This is why we fund science.

Huntington’s disease is brutal. A single DNA error → toxic protein → dead brain cells. No cure. Always fatal. Always inherited. But now? Science has flipped the script. How the new gene therapy works: 1️⃣ Huntington’s mutation makes a toxic protein that kills neurons. 2️⃣ Doctors infuse gene therapy directly into the brain through a catheter. 3️⃣ Neurons absorb the genetic code - and turn into mini drug factories. 4️⃣ The therapy blocks the faulty messenger RNA → less toxic protein. The result? A 75% slowdown in disease progression. Patients still walking when they should be in wheelchairs. One man back at work after being medically retired. This is not science fiction. It’s genetic medicine, delivered in real time. Advanced science… To families living with Huntington’s, it feels like magic.

How fast technology changes social mores. This is from the Seinfeld finale. I went to law school in New York the next year, where I met the first person I knew who had a cell ‘phone, and I remember thinking: who is so egocentric they need to be reachable every minute of the day?

Yesterday’s federal election was the 45th in the proud history of Canada’s democracy.    I want to extend my sincere congratulations to Prime Minister Carney on the results his party achieved. I wish him, and the government he will lead, success as they navigate our country forward during these challenging times. I also want to congratulate Pierre Poilievre and the Conservative Party of Canada on making significant gains, both in seats and popular vote, and bringing an entire new generation of Canadians to the Conservative Party.   To all candidates, campaign volunteers and election workers who participated in this election: thank you for your contribution to our democratic process, one that so many brave Canadians have sacrificed so much to defend. Their legacy is the proud and independent country we must always serve and protect. The True North, Strong and Free.
