On 23 October, four years to the day after Arshad Sharif was shot dead in Kenya, EuroPak inaugurated the Arshad Sharif Human Rights Award at the Geneva Press Club.
His killers have still not been brought to justice. His mother died waiting. But his name will not fade.
He gave his blood, but he never gave up his pen or his voice. Every year, this award will pass them on to a journalist or human rights defender who refuses to be silenced.

Today, the Punjab government confirmed before the Lahore High Court that my mother, Aleema Khan @Aleema_KhanPK and my aunts, Dr Uzma Khan @DrUzma_KhanPK and @Noreen_KhanPK Noreen Niazi, have been detained for another 30 days under the MPO.
What is particularly disturbing is that, according to the government’s own submission, the extension was approved on 7 October, yet only disclosed before the court on 26 October.
Why was this order not disclosed during the Lahore High Court hearings on 9th and 12th October? Why was our family kept in the dark, even after their original 30-day detention periods had expired?
For over a month, @ImranKhanPTI’s three sisters have been held in prison, denied access to their families and legal counsel, simply for standing by their brother, Imran Khan.
As a son and nephew, I ask: What threat do three women pose to the state that warrants another month of imprisonment? What are the authorities so afraid of?
The law should protect citizens from arbitrary detention, not become an instrument of persecution.
We demand their immediate release, immediate access to their families and lawyers, and full disclosure of the legal grounds for their continued detention.
We will keep fighting for justice. We will not be silenced.

Yesterday, on the fourth anniversary of his killing, EuroPak inaugurated the Arshad Sharif Shaheed Human Rights Awards at the Geneva Press Club.
The awards will honour journalists and human rights defenders who stand up for truth, accountability and press freedom. Arshad Sharif paid the ultimate price for his journalism. These awards will keep his courage and his call for justice alive.
At the ceremony we announced how the awards will work: the nomination process, the jury, and the plans for the awards ceremony. More details will follow soon.

Received an invitation email from the Geneva Press Club concerns an award ceremony organised by @Euro_Pak_Org to honor the brave journalist Arshad Sharif @arsched.
Arahad Sharif was a bold and vocal journalist and critic of the Pakistan Army Establishment’s misconducts.
Brave Arshad Sharif was shot & killed by police in Kenya on 22 October 2022.
Many Pakistanis consider that the ISI, Pakistan’s intelligence agency, killed him.
Pakistan’s well-known journalists @ImranRiazKhan and @ARYSabirShakir are set to be key speakers at tomorrow’s award ceremony.

The abduction of Qari Bilal from his home in Pakistan is deeply alarming. He is the brother of Pakistani pro-democracy activist and Europe-based influencer @Abubakrnazir804.
This case raises renewed concerns about reports of enforced disappearances targeting activists, journalists, Imran Khan supporters and their families. Abu Bakr has also previously faced alleged transnational repression. We will formally document this case and urge @EU_Commission @EP_HumanRights @UNHumanRights @FCDOGovUK @antonioguterres and @andyburnham to demand answers, accountability and meaningful action.
Qari Bilal’s whereabouts must be established urgently, his safety guaranteed, and those responsible held accountable under the law. The rights to life, liberty, free expression and democratic participation must never be denied.

We are deeply concerned for Qari Bilal in Pakistan, the brother of Pakistani pro-democracy activist and influencer @Abubakrnazir804 based in Europe. Qari Bilal has been abducted from his home, which follows a pattern of state abductions of activists, journalists, Imran Khan supporters and their families for the past few years in Pakistan. This is not the first time Abu Bakr has been the victim of transnational repression. We shall be documenting this formally - the @EU_Commission @EP_HumanRights @UNHumanRights @FCDOGovUK @antonioguterres @andyburnham must elicit diplomatic and economic consequences of this authoritarianism in Pakistan, which stops at nothing to deprive the people from having a legitimate vote, a right, a voice - not even the taking of precious human life.
