Why Is NaRRA About Legacy Projects And Not Hurricane Melissa Recovery? Opposition Leader Mark Golding asked the question in Parliament on April 21, 2026 that Jamaica is asking today. We recognize the need for special efforts to rebuild Jamaica after the terrible damage inflicted by Hurricane Melissa. Jamaicans continue to suffer from inadequate shelter, damaged housing, and small businesses that have lost everything. The Government's ROOF program with its $10 billion allocation is inadequate in scope and depth, and many who need help cannot even access it. But NARRA is not about providing solutions to the present needs of those people who are suffering. NARRA is really a revamped attempt to inject higher levels of growth into the economy after a decade of failure to do so. Look at the Bill itself. Other than the preamble, there is no reference in the Bill to Melissa or to any hurricane. If NARA was truly about hurricane recovery, why are its projects the 4 new hospitals and other legacy projects that have nothing to do with rebuilding what Melissa destroyed? Why is NARRA about legacy projects and not Hurricane Melissa recovery? #HurricaneMelissa #NARRA #MarkGolding

People's National Party President and Leader of the Opposition, Mark Golding, yesterday welcomed the executive of the Nurses Association of Jamaica (NAJ), led by President Mrs Dawn Marie Richards, along with this year's finalists for the NAJ Nurse of the Year and Nursing Student of the Year awards, during a courtesy call in observance of National Nurses Week. Observed from July 18–24 under the theme, "Our Nurses. Our Future. Empowered Nurses Save Lives," National Nurses Week recognises the invaluable contribution of Jamaica's nurses and celebrates their dedication to caring for the nation. Mr Golding welcomed the opportunity to engage with the Association and its finalists, acknowledging the vital role nurses play within Jamaica's healthcare system. He reaffirmed the People's National Party's commitment to advocating for policies that strengthen the profession through improved working conditions, greater investment in professional development, and the recognition our nurses deserve. – at Jamaica

There is a video circulating on social media that shows what appears to be officers using excessive force against two civilians. Has the @JamaicaConstab confirmed (or denied) whether the events actually occurred, whether same is recent, and if recent event, whether officers have been removed from frontline duty?

Small and medium-sized enterprises are the backbone of Jamaica's economy, driving innovation, creating jobs and strengthening communities across the island. Today, I joined members of the Small Business Association of Jamaica (SBAJ), entrepreneurs, business leaders and policymakers at the SBAJ Growth and Resilience Conference 2026 to engage in important discussions on expanding opportunities for MSMEs, supporting entrepreneurship and building a more resilient and competitive economy. Jamaica's small businesses deserve an environment where they can thrive, access capital more easily, reduce unnecessary bureaucracy and unlock their full potential. That is essential to achieving sustainable economic growth that benefits all Jamaicans.

Some ideas start with a simple conversation. In 2018, my team and I asked ourselves how Arnett Gardens FC could do more for the children of our community and the AGFC Community Outreach Summer School was born. Eight years later, it's still building minds, building character, and building champions. Chess to sharpen young minds. Academic support in reading, writing and maths. Life skills that teach discipline, respect and teamwork. And every child receives meals, snacks and water are given to participants. This is what community looks like.

In Parliament, Peter Bunting MP, called for clarity on the implementation of the proposed tax on Jamaica’s short-term rental sector. Thousands of investors have committed significant capital to this industry and, with only months remaining before implementation, they deserve certainty, not continued uncertainty. #scenesfromparliament @PeterBuntingja

I took this instructive information from the Integrity Commission Report 2025-2026:: "During the review period, 22 matters were concluded resulting in 21 convictions and 1 matter was withdrawn." The IC has an impeccable record of conviction and those who continue to attack the institution better be warned. Keeep up the good job IC.

Standing up for the interests of Manchester Southern residents, I sought clarity on the ongoing impact of bauxite mining on our communities. I raised questions on the reclamation of mined-out lands, enforcement of compliance measures, the status of land titles for affected residents, and whether new bauxite reserves being considered include areas within Southern Manchester.

Why these agencies & their bosses blv the thing that most interests us, is how much 💰was spent? What does a billion dollars mean to someone who's never held a million at one time? Tell us the work's guaranteed for 7 yrs & the contractor's responsible for repairs during that time

At a high-level private sector session with key stakeholders of CARICOM, I made the point that the time is ripe for a compact among Government, business and labour that protects our people on the essentials. Food, sanitary items and basic household goods cannot keep moving beyond the reach of ordinary families while others take every dollar they can get. There is room for profit, but there must also be room for conscience. The Caribbean must lead from the front on this. Keep faith with the people who built these societies. Prove that in difficult times, we still know how to stand together.

Chair of Jamaica’s Integrity Commission (IC) Ret’d Justice Carol Lawrence Beswick has vowed that the anti-corruption watchdog will continue to pursue its mandate fairly, independently, and “without fear or favour”, despite the growing number of court challenges to its decisions. Writing in the IC’s 2025/26 Annual Report, which was tabled in Parliament on Tuesday, Beswick said the commission will be “guided at all times by the law, the principles of justice, and the unwavering commitment to integrity, transparency and accountability in public life”. jamaicaobserver.com/2026/07/…
