If I die before you
which is all but certain
then in the moment
before you will see me
become someone dead
in a transformation [...]
I will cross over into you
and ask you to carry
not only your own memories
but mine too until you
Too lie down and erase us

I remember I saw him live in México with my Mom when I was a teenager. Que tristeza.
Music-lovers all the world over are in mourning today. We lost #ArmandoManzanero to COVID complications. He’s one of the greatest song-writers in Latin American history. Beloved by many who danced to and fell in-love with his ballads. His music will live forever.
RIP, Maestro.💔

For years I lived on the prairie
Half way between two impossible horizons.

Robert Hayden was America's first black poet laureate. His poetry was described as "deeply engaged by the topography of American myth in his efforts to illuminate the American black experience."
Listen to him read "Frederick Douglass."

I am not troubled by rejection. I don't give it a second thought. I just keep writing. The writers, painters and musicians whose music was rejected over the centuries is legion. We are in good company, we sad rejects...

Countee Cullen:
Some for a little while do love, and some for long,
and some rare few forever and for aye,
some for the measure of a poet's song,
and some for the ribbon's width of a summer's day.
Some upon a golden crucifix do swear
and some in blood do plight a fickle troth--
