Il punto è questo: durante il Covid, anche il semplice fatto di sollevare dubbi scientifici poteva diventare un problema. 1977: Steere links the illness to tick exposure. Some patients remember a bite. Many don't.
1981: Willy Burgdorfer finds a spirochete (a type of bacteria) in deer ticks. However, those same ticks carry many other microbes. No human transmission study has ever been done.
1997: The bacterium's genome is sequenced. Research shifts toward sequencing and antibody testing. Antibodies also show up in people who never get sick.
2000s and onward: "Chronic Lyme" becomes an industry. Some practitioners attribute 70+ symptoms to Lyme and use alternative lab tests that "find" it in a large share of the people tested.
