Reforming NZ Superannuation is not going to get any easier.
In politics there's often a lot of hype about the youth vote, but support from older people is typically far more impactful because they're much more likely to turn out. At the 🇳🇿 2023 election, over one third of voters were 60+. That share should be nearly half by the 2070s.

GST is very very close to reaching literally all consumption. I always knew we were kind of an outlier on this but living in the UK it was crazy how much of politics was concerned with differentiating their version for various bits of consumption

Me: So the market gets a little volatile when the 10-year Treasury goes above 5% and oil is more than $100. My kids: Can mom take us to school from now on?

I showed my hairdresser my wedding dress and he was like, wow I did NOT think you were this cool.
I have a friend who is constantly impressed by anything remotely non-nerdy about me. Could not believe I played the guitar. The fact that I go to indie shows floored her. She must have thought I was the most boring person alive when we first met

Interviewers are asking themselves “do I want to deal with this person everyday for years?” If you can’t even pretend to be bothered to try to be likable, that’s a valid disqualification.

We need an option that's like "both equally" but with a negative inflection, like both sides are behaving in bad unsympathetic ways.

The problem is that if you ask someone "have you thought about X?" Where X is a service that you are providing, it has different implications when X is not something that you are providing.
Hi, I'm a psychiatrist. I assess peoples thoughts for a living. It has been well established that asking adults (even children!) about things they already know about does not introduce an "increase" in those thoughts, nor does it "offer" it to them as a new thing. "Have you thought about harming others?" Is not an offer to harm others "Do you use ketamine?" Is not an offer to use ketamine. "Have you thought about leaving your husband?" Is not an offer to leave your husband "Have you thought about suicide?" Is not an offer for suicde "Have you thought about calling your ex-boyfriend?" Is not an offer to call your ex-boyfriend "Did you think about using cocaine last week?" Is not an offer to use cocaine "Did you worry last night?" Is not an offer to continue worrying. so... now that we 've established that "Have you thought about Medical Assistance in Dying?" Is not an offer for MAiD

Cannot relate, being a kid was the worst, when I was a kid the only thing I wanted to do was not be a kid. Ideally people would be born at age 28.
I decided to ask Jean M. Twenge's question to my students today. "If you could be kids again, would you?" And practically all of them said yes. When I asked why, it was basically all the reasons she lists: no responsibility; life was simpler; no stress; more fun etc.

xitter.cf/parasociality/status/2… NZ felt nice for being directly in touch with power and influence. Basically no one writes much, so if you do then the 10 literate people who matter will see it. My influence was not high but not 0
One reason for this may be: In a country of say, 5-10 million (Austria, Switzerland, Denmark, New Zealand) there's actually a pretty realistic shot for all the ambitious and talented people to BE SOMEBODY. You really could be PM, or judge on the Supreme Court, or the richest man.
