Participatory democracy chat comes from educated and earnest people who haven't done that much participating in democracy
You do not appreciate how stupid the average voter really is until you regularly go to local government budget meetings

I do love the genre of joke which is like "first base: unprotected sex; fourth base: hold hands in public in daylight" but statistically single people are not having many casual relationships or all that much sex

No view on the scott watson appeal in the supreme court. Evidence doesn't sound amazing. Not sure anyone in the 90s was convicted on all that much evidence

Sounds good should do it more often Harberger tax when?
Land purchased under the Public Works Act for public schools or public housing is being sold to private property investors after being categorised as 'surplus to requirements'. This is netting huge capital gains, for the govt.

Plausible But if you like small but rich cities, or consumerism, probably worse. Peak Australia is a selection of fairly big capital cities
Here's a one sentence description of Australia: It's like the United States but better, except if you're extraordinarily ambitious or you really like burritos, in which case it's like the United States but worse

As a brave center left neoliberal battler - feels good The parties very much understand this! Attacks on TOP by actual politicians are from the right
A lot of left wingers are acting like Opportunity isn’t our only hope of getting into government

Litigation funding and claim selling are good
Should you be able to sell a lawsuit? Like if I thibk I have a pretty good case and I’m likely to win. But don’t rly wanna bother /take on the risk/ have a high discount rate. Couldn’t I sell it so someone else? Or bundle them and sell as a pack?

But the benefits of my list is it sets up a good capital tax (over the complex and bad ones labour and the greens are lining up); focuses climate policy on an effective cap and trade scheme; and limits nightmarishly expensive new roads and prisons Plus MMP can keep functioning

People should absolutely be drinking heavily with their colleagues and doing karaoke with them in other cities at 2am
My controversial opinion is that heavy drinking with coworkers (especially on work travel) is the only team building activity out there that does what all other team building activities purport to do

Replying to @leonardshong

The UK Parliament shouldn't pass bad laws. It should not ban videos of lawful sex and taboo roleplay, nor do so with ambiguous words People fuck and wank, and its proper to give them a lot of leeway to do so
This drafting is nonsense to me - it is illegal to possess images of sex between people “pretending to be related” unless it is “fanciful they actually were related”. To me, the fact they are actors in a porn shoot inherently makes it “fanciful” they’re actually related!

I don't trust the jurisdictions proposed to be AI safety regulators, and I don't think there are realistic alternatives. Feels very much like a "must do something / this is something" situation
