Out yesterday. Using a translation reporter on a mini-tn5 transposon, and high freq. mutagenesis, we looked at translation on whole genome scale independently of genome annotation. academic.oup.com/nar/article…

Sharing a very short paper that I wanted to write up for many years which showed biochemical evidence that UndP sequestered with altered sugar structures are trapped at the cystosolic face of the membrane due to ineffective Wzx activity.

The ever amazing @art_egorov in our group has made a new visualisation tool for comparative genomics. Makes particularly beautiful images of phages, plasmids, other MGEs or regions of prokaryotic genomes 😍 biorxiv.org/cgi/content/shor…

Thank you so much @MicrobioSoc for having me yesterday #Microbio24 it was a real pleasure to share this work
...some prophage encoded genes (not defences) under standard LB conditions, despite the prophage being cryptic and unable to propagate... kind of suggests some of their genes have been co-opted for host biology (who knows🤷♀️)
- We detected ~2-3 mini proteins encoded within rRNA...
