Next this guy is going to pretend limited financial resources aren’t a constraint created by the pro league standard
If the #prorelforusa folks actually gave a shit about lower division soccer in the US instead of being performative keyboard warriors, a good place to start would be focusing on making @opencup affordable for teams who want to enter.

I was convinced mls llc saved soccer in the USA. What’s this about access to European soccer?
"Soccer owes much of its rise in these United States to the worldliness it confers. As the upper middle class discovered soccer – or rediscovered it, to be historically accurate – in the late 1990s and early 2000s, following it signaled that you knew there was more to sports than the NFL, NBA or baseball. That the rest of world mostly followed different sports, and that you were in on its secrets. Bonus points for drinking a Carling in a pub of some American downtown at 7.30 am on a Saturday." - Leander Schaerlaeckens theguardian.com/football/202…

Pioneering expansion fee markets to feed the Ponzi scheme
"At some point, there will be NFL teams outside the USA." As the NFL continues to expand its international footprint, commissioner Roger Goodell says it is inevitable that the league will eventually have a team permanently based outside the United States. spr.ly/6011B1jarH

Another Hot take from lalas the company man
Given its size, an intra-MLS promotion/relegation structure (MLS1/MLS2) is certainly a possibility. But the it would still be seen as a bastardized version by the pro/rel zealots. It also doesn't fix the fundamental problem that no team wants to be labeled second tier, especially if they have already paid handsomely to mitigate that possibility.

And here but a peasant defending his lords
Just a reminder that Ben isn't bright. They don't give exclusive control... MLS is the only league that meets D1 reqs. Who else thinks we can do better with our soccer posters?

Investor doesn’t want risk exposure via authentic competition. 🥱
“I can understand the appeal for the fans, [but] I don’t think it’s a great way to build a league.” Larry Berg, the new commissioner of MLS who’s also a co-owner of MLS club LAFC, was asked about potential promotion and relegation in the league. He was speaking during his introductory press conference. 🗣️ “I can understand the appeal for the fans, [but] I don’t think it’s a great way to build a league,” Berg answered the question. “I don’t think it’s a way to get stadiums built, get training facilities built, and to have owners invest in rosters and all the other things you need to do. “So the great thing about promotion/relegation for fans is that the jeopardy is quite severe. But I think there are other ways to create jeopardy during the regular season, and during the playoffs to get to the next round. “That’s what we want to focus on.” Berg was selected via a comprehensive succession planning process led by the MLS Board of Governors. Don Garber will continue to serve as commissioner through the end of 2026 before becoming chairman in 2027.

Pack it up gents. Every league is single entity and doesn’t follow US time zones
So is every league these days....the golden days of pure community football died like 30 years ago and I just like going to live professional soccer games instead of just watching in my living room at 7 am

Being truthful, it is already the best single-entity league in the world. hats of mls llc peasants.
Berg is the word. MLS owners understandably pick one of their own. Hopefully, as new MLS Commisioner, Berg spearheads big and bold moves, on and off the field. And hopefully these moves enable MLS to someday be seen as the biggest and best pro soccer league in the world.

Hello, Sunshine…from the belly of the American youth soccer beast. Evidently this is why we lost to Belgium. What are we yelling about?

An mls llc subject will tell you it’s actually a good thing no one else has a chance at first division USA other then their MLS llc lords
A pro/rel weirdo will tell you it's actually a good thing if this empty stadium was featured in the 1st division every week.

What does “growth” actually mean? Revenue, audience, valuation, infrastructure, and participation measure commercial growth. Promotion measures sporting merit. They are related, but they are not interchangeable. A club can grow commercially without being the best team on the field, just as a promoted club can face higher costs, greater risk, and a worse P&L. Promotion is not a financial award. It is the mechanism to answer to a simple question: who has earned the right to compete at the next level? Or more simply put: "Who is the best?" That is what makes the closed-league argument fall apart. You cannot market yourself as the home of the most elite level of competition while using centralized wealth and purchasing power to insulate yourself from the most fundamental form of competition: the possibility that someone else can outperform you.

Why is the only way to measure growth by promotion to you? NFL has grown exponentially. It didn’t get promoted. EPL has grown to the most popular league in the world. It didn’t get promoted to that. It earned that by TV deals and $$$$.
