⚽️ This is a possession transfer practice from thecoacheszone.com.
This 3v1 transfer rondo involves 3 teams of 2 players plus 1 neutral player. Play starts with a 2v1 in one grid, with the neutral player creating a 3v1 situation for the team in possession. The players in possession must make 3 passes before attempting to transfer the ball across the grids.
The neutral player can travel freely across both grids, ensuring the team in possession is always playing a 3v1. If either of the 2 defenders wins possession, they switch with the 2 players who lost possession, continuing the drill without interruption.

⚽ Excellent Sheffield Wednesday Positional Game
A directional 7v7 plus 4 practice played across three zones.
📐 Suggested Dimensions
• End zones: 14 yards long x 16 yards wide
• Central zone: 16 yards long x 16 yards wide
🔹 Organisation
• Each end zone is 2v2 plus 1
• Central zone is 3v3 plus 2
• Teams work through the zones towards the opposition target goals
• One central neutral can move forward into the attacking end zone to create an overload
🎯 Scoring
• 1 point for scoring directly into a target goal
• 2 points if the goal follows a pass from the end line neutral
🧠 Coaching Focus
• Scan before receiving
• Create effective support angles
• Play forward when possible
• Recognise when to support into the next zone
• Maintain balance behind the ball

The first touch shapes the next action.
This on-pitch session moves from colour-call passing and scanning to receiving on the turn, then into passing and finishing around mannequins. Watch how the coaching corrections change the next rep.

🔥 SAVE THIS FOR YOUR NEXT TRAINING SESSION 🔥
This Breakout Rondo combines possession, forward play and competitive 2v2 duels in one fast, intense practice ⚽️
✅ 4v4 in the rondo
✅ Two players from each team stay outside the area, creating a 4v2 in possession
✅ Complete five passes
✅ Then look to play forward into the 2v2 zone
Once the ball enters the 2v2 area, the attackers have one objective…
🎯 ATTACK THE END ZONE AND SCORE
If the defenders win possession, they immediately look to connect back into their teammates in the rondo area.
This practice is fast, intense and demanding both technically and cognitively.
Players are constantly scanning, supporting, combining, reacting and looking for opportunities to PLAY FORWARD.
🔥 Loads of game relevant repetitions
🔥 Constant transitions
🔥 Possession under pressure
🔥 2v2 attacking and defending
🔥 Decision making at speed
Want to increase the intensity?
Introduce a touch limit in the rondo.
Then add a countdown timer for the 2v2 duel ⏱️
A superb development practice that reinforces one key principle throughout…
PLAY FORWARD WHEN THE OPPORTUNITY IS THERE 🚀
Save it. Try it. Let us know how your players get on.
