One day early I am posting the latest episode of Ellroy Reads. Today I look at F. Scott Fitzgerald's 'The Crack-Up', a masterpiece of the confessional essay, and discuss its influences on James Ellroy's writing: youtu.be/p62WAsS29II?is=7sMA…
Hemingway hated F. Scott Fitzgerald's essay 'The Crack-Up'. He felt all of the angst on display should have been channelled into a novel.
Nevertheless, more than eighty years since publication 'The Crack-Up' is now regarded as one of the finest examples of confessional writing

Delighted with the interest Peter Greenaway's work still generates. In an age of cultural monotony we need artists who take risks more than ever, and it is a crime that we have been denied the chance to see the last two films directed by Greenaway.
Peter Greenaway's latest film is stuck in post-production hell. This article is a good overview of the film's seemingly intractable problems. It fails to mention though that Greenaway's previous film Walking to Paris is stuck in exactly the same quagmire: theguardian.com/film/2026/oc…
On the next episode of Ellroy Reads I'll be reviewing F. Scott Fitzgerald's confessional essay 'The Crack-Up' and examining its influences on James Ellroy's searingly candid writing about his own demons #subscribe youtube.com/post/Ugkx8k29Sm-…

Great novel. Worth picking up.
Ellroy Reads is back with a look at Fools' Gold, the classic heist novel by Dolores Hitchens and the iconic French New Wave film Band of Outsiders which it inspired: youtu.be/gzoZzn7yD2o?is=Btzp…
Fools' Gold is one of the greatest heist novels ever published, but the film adaptation Band of Outsiders, despite its iconic status, is a meandering arthouse mess.
