I've been absent from SM, but I had to participate in my favorite writing contest!
My #50PreciousWords entry was inspired by daffodils I picked last week. I felt guilty cutting them, but the incoming frost was too risky.
Thanks to @viviankirkfield and everyone else involved!

Anyone in the #autistic #neurodivergent #AuDHD #kidlit or #writingcommunity can find me on Bluesky! I'll be deleting my X and Instagram accounts on Friday. I'm grateful for all of the friendships and connections Twitter brought me. See y'all on Bluesky!
I'm almost 3 weeks late, but Baby Grinch was Snorlax for Halloween this year! Any suggestions for Baby Grinch's next outfit? It doesn't have to be a #Pokémon - I'm open to other ideas!
I saw a Mom's Group SM post detailing how most kids don't want to hang w/ her ADHD son. He hangs with 'other shunned' kids at school only. She ensures he has 'cool clothes' & is 'handsome', but it doesn't help. I replied those 'cool kids' will never be his friends & that's OK.
As neurodivergent ppl, we tend to assume that we aren't invited to things. I've made an effort to reach out to my kids' (likely ND) friends' parents over the years. Know what? They are available 99% of the time & are beyond grateful you reached out first.
I cut this stunning, 5-inch wide rose from my garden today 😍, but then remembered it's almost November in the midwest 😳.
Gotta love those climate change mixed emotions.
My 9 y/o was talking with her friend when one of her girl classmates came over.
Girl: I know you're autistic.
My daughter: So?
Girl: Well, that's BAD!
My daughter: -shrugs shoulders - Maybe to you, but not to me.
I have never been so proud.
I've been gone for so many months that I'm afraid to come back 🫣 Are you still here, #kidlit and #actuallyautistic friends?

Neurodivergent life is being over- and under- estimated by a lot of people. You’ll often be seen as a ‘genius’ with ‘unique talents and ways of thinking’ who is ‘full of potential’, but also as an ‘eccentric’ person who is too ‘awkward’, ‘unfocused’ and ‘unlikeable’ to succeed.
When you personify Christmas decorations to the point where you feel physical stomachaches at the idea of putting Baby Grinch in storage, you make them a Valentines outfit instead. #ActuallyAutistic
8 & 6 don't believe in Santa. This is helpful.
8: What if we FORGET to stay upstairs until you or Dad wake up?
6: Yeah, what will happen?
Me: I mean, I *was* planning on putting a pack of Pokémon cards in your stockings in the AM but if you're already downstairs ...
Both: GOT IT!
The "Batman Smells, Robin laid an egg, Batmobile lost a wheel and the Joker learned ballet" version of Jingle Bells is still alive and well. The kids are alright.
Happy Christmas Eve to those celebrating 🎅!
I feel like a broken record. It is NOT part of autism for a child to have frequent meltdowns. It *is* common for traumatized autistic kids who aren't getting their emotional & environmental needs met to have frequent meltdowns.
"A REFERRAL FOR a nine-year-old autistic girl was refused by CAMHS last year with a consultant said that it is “common for children with disabilities to have meltdowns and say they don’t want to be here” after they reported her suicidal ideation." tinyurl.com/32s6bk42
