Launch window for @LunarTrailblazr opens today! 🚀🌚 Immensely proud of our team and looking forward to getting underway to map water on the Moon. Launching along with IM-2/SpaceX, separating ~48min after launch. @NASA coverage starts 6:30pm ET #PI_daily
🚀🌙 @NASA’s Lunar Trailblazer mission is ready to live up to its name! The small satellite is riding along on @Int_Machines’ IM-2 launch, part of NASA’s CLPS initiative, which is slated to launch no earlier than Feb. 26. 🧵Check out this thread to learn more about the mission!

Congrats to @Caltech @EhlmannLab alum Dr. Ellen Leask on her important findings for Mars history: sulfates connected with basin volcanoes, large ash deposits, late history saline waters -- Terra Sirenum holds an amazing record of Mars climate! Check out the paper 👇

Former @Caltech @EhlmannLab postdoc Lucia Mandon traces more oxidized minerals in part of the Jezero crater delta relative to the floor or later rocks seen by @NASAPersevere in the upper delta

New paper from @Caltech @EhlmannLab grad student Yu Yu Phua et al shows the hydration state of sulfates in Mars rocks seen by @NASAPersevere. More dehydrated than @MarsCuriosity rocks (weird), and phases found indicate salty fluids for at least some of the waters in Jezero crater
Characterizing Hydrated Sulfates and Altered Phases in Jezero Crater Fan and Floor Geologic Units With SHERLOC on Mars 2020. buff.ly/4em8JXi Hydrated Ca‐sulfates are found only in the upper fan.

This week, we have a plot demonstrating the spectral diversity of the rocks that the Perseverance rover has encountered in Jezero Crater. These spectra show variable iron mineralogy which indicates strong oxidative water-rock interactions in the Jezero delta deposits. (1/2)

Last week, thank you to all the folks who came to my @Caltech #WatsonLecture to hear about our @LunarTrailblazr mission and especially the @caltechipac, @PCCLancer, and @EhlmannLab members who ran outreach activities! Talk is here for your viewing youtu.be/XGNNxd_o98s
There's less than a week until Bethany Ehlmann's #WatsonLecture, which will introduce attendees to the @LunarTrailblazr mission! Reserve your seat for free today: caltech.edu/campus-life-even… Not local? Watch the recorded Watson Lectures here: youtube.com/playlist?list=PL…

Cool new views of Mars! Astronaut-eye view, courtesy of the Mars Odyssey orbiter and my good friend and fellow @BrownGeoSci alum Laura Kerber
What would Mars look like from a future orbiting astronaut's POV? The Odyssey orbiter captured its first images of the Red Planet’s curving horizon and layers of atmosphere, similar to the @Space_Station’s view of Earth. More on these new images: go.nasa.gov/3GinHhC

New @EhlmannLab pub from alum Dr. Nathan Stein: so many large, geologically young Na carbonate deposits on Ceres. How/why were they emplaced so recently? Rayleigh-Taylor instabilities and diapirs, perhaps? Mystery over to you, planetary geophysicists :) doi.org/10.1029/2023JE007868
