Lol That's what the Mande people did. They told the Berbers and Arabs that there were only cannibals in the forest regions of the Akan goldfields🤣. The Arabs never went south.
Mande people remained the main trading partners of the Akan goldfields until the Portuguese arrived.
Medieval citations of non-Muslim/pagan Blacks as inhumane and uncivilized cannibals are not attested by real explorers, and should not be taken seriously.
You definitely have read of Ibn Khaldun saying that blacks below Sahelians are all kinds of things, or other random arab historians despising the “zanj” (usually used for Sub-Sahel blacks).
All these claims however come from Sahelian (especially Mande) merchants who took advantage of their ignorance of the African interior & sought to prevent foreigners from finding alternative access to these sources of their wealth. Stories of cannibals and monsters inhabiting the goldfields may therefore have served to discourage outsiders, successfully exploiting North African credulity and cultural prejudices.
I’d say that this was successful until Europeans like Portuguese & Danes started trading directly with the coasts. It was incredibly detrimental for the Western Sahel.

You know what bothers me… We’ve reached a point where people confuse being offended with being harmed.
Not every joke is a political statement. Not every uncomfortable sentence is “unethical.” And not everything needs to be dissected, moralised and turned into a public trial. Go touch some grass Karen.
Yes, context matters. Yes, boundaries matter. But so do humour, nuance and intent. Nowadays, you can’t say shit without some self-appointed moral authority rushing in to twist your words, manufacture outrage and lecture you from an imaginary pedestal.
If you constantly search for something to be offended by, you’ll always find it. That doesn’t make you more ethical… it makes you part of the reason society has become so dividedd.
If your first instinct is always to assume the darkest possible meaning, the problem may not be what was said… it may be the lens you’ve trained yourself to see everything through. I mean think about it.
People who manufacture harm where none was intended aren’t protecting society. They’re destroying it… replacing humour with fear, nuance with outrage and honest conversation with constant moral policing.

Transformers ending when Optimus Prime was giving a speech with Linkin Park playing will forever be a classic
Four months later, the Epstein Files still have vanished from the conversation, as if one of the biggest scandals in American and Israeli politics never happened.

don’t let your empathy rob people of experiencing the consequences of their actions.
