Quick story about Dave Hakstol and what ASU is getting: Every year there is an NCAA college coaches convention down in Florida where we have our league meetings and discuss the state of college hockey. My first year coaching at Cornell at 25 years old I'm walking down the hallway of the hotel and Coach Hakstol was walking towards me. It was just the two of us in the hallway. I was so nervous, he's a legend in college hockey. While planning to just nod my head hello and walk past, he stopped me and said "Hey, Topher". I was like wow, this coaching legend stopped me to talk to me. And then he said "I just wanted to let you know how excited I am for you that you got into coaching. I love the way you played as a player and it's great to get more coaches like you into college hockey." I had never met him. But that gesture from a legendary coach to a first year rookie coach is something I'll never forget. And I would bet a huge part of the reason he's been so successful as a coach in his career.
