This is Laney, and she will be joining us at the #ISTE Wayground booth for our Community Hour on Tuesday from 1:00 to 1:30 PM! Laney is an instructional technology coach at Darlington County School District in South Carolina and a @waygroundai Game Changer. When asked what her favorite part about Wayground is, she talked about how easy it is to create Waygrounds from existing study guides and how it encourages students to practice multiple times. She also “loves Mastery Peak!" If you're going to be at #ISTE26, be sure to come by and visit Laney at our booth! @EdTechLane @DCSD_SC

Getting asked a lot lately about what I think about big tech jumping into the AI in education space and what it means for @magicschoolai. Our advantage? Alignment to schools districts, educators, and students. OpenAI is launching an AI video generating app to compete with Tik Tok. Google is touting shopping and e-commerce in Gemini. We're AI solely focused on education, educators, schools, students - our next chapter is getting even closer to who we serve. It's simple for us: If we serve schools, teachers, and students better - we win. Game on.

I know this is an unpopular opinion but what if we wrote fraction division like this, at least a couple times? Here's why:

When we found out today was National Brisket Day… We were shocked. We were honored. We always knew the Brisk It button was powerful. But a national holiday in our name? That’s next-level impact. We’d like to thank the educators who Brisk It every day. This recognition isn’t just ours - it’s yours. It’s an honor we never asked for. But one we will absolutely accept.

Procrastination is not a time management problem. It’s an emotion management problem. You’re not avoiding work. You’re avoiding tasks that feel boring, frustrating, or stressful. Postponing prolongs pain. The dread of starting is quickly outweighed by the joy of progressing.

I founded Brisk Teaching in late 2022. Here's the story of how it happened: I left the Chan Zuckerberg Initiative in 2022 and got excited about LLMs right before ChatGPT launched. I saw the potential immediately. After working side by side with educators for many years, I knew how AI could to scale their instructional impact. Over winter break, while taking care of my brother after his rhinoplasty, I built a web app to leverage AI for teacher workflows. But talking with teachers made me quickly realize this web version was missing the mark. A traditional platform wasn't going to cut it in the era of AI. I kept asking myself: How can AI streamline workflows that are already happening across over 100 different applications? So I started from scratch with a Chrome extension. First, my bank account was nearing zero and I needed capital to actually build this dream into a product. Most investors didn't believe teachers were early adopters. "Teachers are behind the times," they'd say. (Not accurate, BTW) Teachers innovate constantly out of necessity. They rarely get tools designed specifically for them. I convinced enough investors to build what we needed, and we launched in spring 2023. A few hundred teachers started using it, posting about it on Facebook and Reddit. Summer 2023, I couldn't afford a booth at ISTE (the Super Bowl of edtech conferences). So instead I walked around handing out Brisk iced tea to build awareness. Met our earliest users there! Entered fall 2023 with momentum and new features and we started to scale fast. Those same people we met at ISTE remain huge fans today. They've watched as everything we talked about back then has come to life. Now we have 1 in 5 teachers in the US using Brisk. We're still scrappy, but we have the resources to accomplish what we set out to do. An amazing culmination of years of work and educator support.

Giving teachers access to instructional technology without training is like handing someone a high-performance sports car without showing them how to drive stick — the potential is there, but they’re stuck in neutral, no progress is made and leads to frustration.
