Who are Women Human Rights Defenders (WHRDs)❓
✅ WHRDs are women who actively advocate for all human rights at individual and organizational levels and men who actively advocate for women's human rights.
✅ They challenge injustice.
✅ They stand up for women.
.
This week the Network’s steering committee had a meeting with the UN Special Rapporteur on #HRDs @MaryLawlorhrds and briefed her on the situation of Women Human Rights Defenders in Ethiopia.
I met with WHRDs from #Ethiopia earlier this week to discuss the gender-specific risks they are facing, and I heard about continued stigmatization, smearing and threats on social media platforms including @facebook, @instagram, @X & @tiktok_us. These companies must do better.

Happy International Women Human Rights Defenders Day! 📷📷📷
Today we take the time to acknowledge and honor the hard work of the many women and men who tirelessly fight to advocate and safeguard women's rights.
#EWHRDN together with the @CenterEHRD & @UNHumanRights, we hosted a half-day workshop aimed to recognize the valuable contributions made by WHRDs, and establish a stronger bond to promote women's voices worldwide.
