In September 2026, EHRDC conducted a 2-day training on disability rights monitoring for members of the Ethiopian HRDs with Disability Network.
This initiative was delivered under the SCORED Project, implemented through the 2 phases of CSIF.

Sep. 2026, EHRDC convened HRDs and women-led organizations for a 3-day training in which participants explored survivor-centered & trauma-informed approaches, ensuring survivor voices & experiences informed the application of transitional justice principles.

HRDs rely on timely and reliable information to support affected communities, challenge misinformation & bring people’s concerns to decision-makers. In times of conflict, cutting people off from information can also cut communities off from help, protection, & the outside world.
A little late in marking #InternationalDayOfDemocracy, but the message remains important: democracy depends on those who defend it every day. HRDs speak up, protect civic space, and hold power accountable so every voice counts.
At EHRDC, we stand with defenders across Ethiopia✊
When survivors need support, compassionate care can make all the difference. With support from the Embassy of France, EHRDC conducted Psychosocial First Aid (PFA) training for WHRDs across Addis Ababa, Afar, Amhara, Somali, and Tigray.

For WHRDs who have survived GBV, reintegration is not one act, it's many. It's psychosocial help to heal, financial independence to rebuild their lives, digital safety to reclaim their voices & a community willing to welcome them back.

For WHRDs who have survived GBV, reintegration is not an option, it is essential. Without pathways back into their communities and roles, isolation deepens, recovery is hindered, and powerful voices are silenced.

For WHRDs who have survived GBV, psychosocial support is not a luxury, it is the foundation of recovery. Standing by those who defend others means committing to their long-term healing through professional, trauma-informed care and continuous solidarity.

Reintegration for a WHRD doesn't end with returning home, reconnecting with the community, or resuming work. In today's digital age, it must also mean safety online, free from tracking, harassment, & exposure.

Beyond the debates, the inaugural EHRDC Inter-University Human Rights Clubs Debate Competition created valuable opportunities for connection & solidarity. We were also honored to host a CSO Exhibition, where fellow civil society organizations stood in solidarity with young HRDs.
1st EHRDC Inter-University Human Rights Clubs Debate Competition concluded, bringing 12 Human Rights Clubs from across Ethiopia.
Congrats to Jimma University Human Rights Club on winning the competition & to Arbaminch University Human Rights Club for finishing as runner-up.
GBV survivor WHRDs understand their own needs, strengths,& aspirations better than anyone else. When they are placed at the center of the reintegration process, we move closer to real agency, restored dignity, & lasting, meaningful recovery.

Do existing Ethiopian laws protect WHRD during reintegration? While current frameworks provide vital tools against violence, dedicated & stronger legislation is essential for full protection & meaningful reintegration. What do you think?

Africa has strong frameworks to protect survivor WHRDs, from the Maputo Protocol to the AU Transitional Justice Policy. But protection on paper is not enough.
We must turn commitments into action by strengthening national efforts.
