51 countries are united today in our support for Ukraine at the UN General Assembly.
Since March 2025, Ukraine has agreed to a full, immediate and unconditional ceasefire. We call on Russia to finally do the same.
Ukraine wants peace. We want peace. Russia must stop its aggression, accept a ceasefire, and engage meaningfully in negotiations towards a comprehensive, just and lasting peace in accordance with international law.

But Russia is blocking exports through the Black Sea and is deliberately causing global food insecurity.
The EU is calling for attacks to stop and grain to flow again.

Even wars have laws.
Yet in conflicts around the world, we are witnessing serious violations of International Humanitarian Law.
International law has never been more developed or more accessible. The law is not the problem, impunity is. And impunity breeds impunity.
Rules exist to protect people caught in war. They must be respected.

The so-called Duma elections marked another major setback for Russian democracy. Their outcome was never in doubt.
The Kremlin silenced dissent, barred the only registered party that opposed its war in Ukraine, and shut out international election monitors.
The veneer of democracy is all that remains in Russia.
I have proposed measures against those facilitating these sham elections in occupied Ukrainian territories.

The Kremlin continues its desperate attempts to convince the international community that sanctions imposed on Russia are futile and should be lifted. In reality, EU GDP grew by 0.5% in Q2 of 2026, while Russia faces mounting economic issues, including overheating and the prospect of stagflation.

We have seen Russia’s dangerous recklessness at full display in the past 48 hours.
A Russian warship fired flares at a Danish helicopter.
NATO jets had to shoot down a drone over Lithuania.
Russia struck a passenger train near the border with Ukraine.
And Poland pulled a drone from its shores.
We need to be clear-eyed: those are not accidents.
They are calculated attempts by Russia to weaken our resolve.
Europe will not dial back its support for Ukraine.

EU leaders met today, 14 September, in Rovaniemi, Finland, for the European Arctic Summit.
Ahead of the Summit, HR/VP @kajakallas stressed that climate change is opening new maritime routes in the Arctic and triggering growing geopolitical contest. Russia is increasing its military presence in the Arctic, while China is also showing growing interest in the region. Arctic security is European security.

The public glorification afforded to a convicted war criminal in Belgrade is an affront to the memory of the victims, their families, and all those who suffered during the conflicts in the Western Balkans.
True reconciliation cannot be built on revisionism, the denial of genocide or the honouring of perpetrators.
Serbia's path into the European Union requires an unequivocal commitment to fundamental European values and historical truth.
There is no place in Europe for the glorification of war criminals.

Today, HR/VP @kajakallas met with the Lithuanian Prime Minister, @mindaugassink, in Vilnius ahead of Lithuania’s EU Council Presidency in 2027.
Discussions focused on Russia’s increasing hybrid attacks as well as the security situation at Lithuania’s border with Belarus. They also discussed continued EU support to Ukraine, including air defence, and sanctions against Russia.

Held under the @Ireland2026eu, the informal meeting of EU Foreign Ministers (Gymnich) brought together counterparts from Ukraine, Canada, Iceland, Norway, the United Kingdom and Switzerland to discuss security challenges in Ukraine.
Ministers also discussed the situation in the Middle East, including freedom of navigation in the Strait of Hormuz, support for the Gaza Peace Plan and the Two-State solution, and efforts to strengthen the Lebanese state.
HR/VP @kajakallas chaired the meeting.
