Obesity is a major global health concern—and it can significantly impair male fertility.
Our team from @IUMensHealth @MDAndersonNews, and @SandroEstevesC just published a review article in Human Reproduction @ESHRE exploring how different weight-loss strategies may help counter these negative effects:
🔹 🏃♂️Lifestyle changes – Moderate exercise + healthier eating remain the first-line approach and should be encouraged for everyone.
🔹 🥗Mediterranean-style diets – Rich in antioxidants, linked to better semen quality and improved hormonal balance.
🔹 🔪Bariatric surgery – Can raise testosterone and sometimes improve sperm quality, but may also cause declines in sperm concentration or even temporary azoospermia. ⚠️ Always talk to your urologist and consider banking sperm before surgery.
🔹 💉GLP-1 receptor agonists (e.g., Ozempic, Mounjaro) – Promote weight loss and may boost sperm motility and hormones, but a few reversible sperm-quality issues have been reported. 🚨 Their safety before conception still needs more study.
👉 Bottom line: Weight loss matters, but the approach should be individualized—especially when fertility is a priority.

Interesting point 👀.
A control group with prior fertility, no miscarriages, and 3D US would be valuable to test the uterine factor’s causal role in RPL.
👉 The challenge is recruitment, plus heterogeneous diagnostic guidelines make causal inference tricky.

The infertile population however might be more prone to miscarriages for reasons other than uterine factor. High DNA fragmentation or genetics amongst others #ESHREjc
