Even infants explore phenomena! There is no age at which children begin thinking about their world and testing out their ideas. #earlyscience #ECE #STEMstartsEarly
By exploring phenomena, students have opportunities to apply science and engineering practices and to build their own larger scientific conceptions and identities. stemteachingtools.org/brief/… #SciEd, #ScienceEd #STEMed, #NGSS #NGSSchat

At @ISD719CommEd Nature Adventures Camp the students were all about catching "grasshoppers." Upon looking closer they realized some looked different from others which led to learning about katydids and crickets.

Thanks to the shade of the forest & Mother Nature's "fan," the heat didn't stop us from having a great 3 hours of camp. Picture: It's impossible to explore water with preschoolers without someone flooding their boot. 🤣
S1: What's the temperature right now? Me: 92, feels like 101 S1: It doesn't feel THAT hot... 2 min later we step out of the shade... S2: Whoa! Did you just turn the heat on? S1: And what happened to the fan?

In #ECE we may steer children away from arguing but “Engaging in argument from evidence” is one of the @OfficialNGSS Practices of Science & Engineering. Children love to state how they know what they (think) they know ➡️great discussions/opportunities 4 oral language & reasoning.
Argumentation is central to productive science learning. How can your classroom and lab activities be modified to provide opportunities for argumentation in these discussion formats? stemteachingtools.org/brief/… #SciEd, #ScienceEd #STEMed, #NGSS #NGSSchat

Children learn so much about the diversity of plant life and the different structures that plants have when they have some opportunities to explore, touch, and pick. (Yes *my* garden suffers many losses to the toddler’s exploration) #OutdoorLearning @ECSIF

What kind of problem solving do your #Prek students do in the #sandbox? So many possibilities for appreciating the properties of matter while making #engineering design choices! #foundationalexperiences
Many youth have extensive experience observing or engaging in design projects that develop solutions to everyday problems or interests that matter to them. The design knowledge and identities of youth can help other students in #engineering: stemteachingtools.org/brief/…
