The entire world economy is being retooled in expectation of imminent human obsolescence.

Can I get a date, and threshold for "human obsolescence"? E.g. 50% unemployment by X date

I wish there was a way we could just rip off the bandaid as a society and start handing out UBI and ditch all of the fake jobs but that's just not how reality works. You're going to have to hang in there. There's going to be pain and loss. It will not last forever. Have a plan.

As an HVAC technician? Hard to say. Like I said there's going to be some pain. I would hate to be trying to run this country the next couple years. It's going to get ugly.

My laptop job goes before yours for sure. I ran an HVAC business once upon a time so that's my fallback until the robots finish the job of automating everything.

Where's the demand for your work going to come from, if what you predict is true, and most white collar professionals are wiped out?

AI is bad because: - it makes mass surveillance dramatically cheaper - as AI agents become embedded into society and the economy, a few companies have a significant influence on cultural norms - open-source AI gives malicious actors more capabilities for cyber and bio attacks
Some of the quotes are arguing like "there are better arguments against AI" but I'm not sure there are. This is as good as it gets.

The argument that it won't lead to mass un(der)employment of current white collar workers seems mostly based on hopes, prayers, and comparisons to the typewriter?

No need to specify white collar workers. Of course, they may be the first to fall, but what do you think will happen to blue collar work demand when people can't afford to buy new homes, or renovations, and office buildings stop being built?

Paraphilic homosexuals will experience remission due to the anti hedonic mechanism of retatrutide.
I've been taking Reta since June titrating from 0.5mg to 4mg currently getting to lose this extra 40lbs. I'm 26lbs down and also lost my attraction towards men. I've been gay for the last 11 years and every time I'm with a male I feel shame and want throw up afterwards. I'm feeling attracted towards women in a way I've never felt before and I don't know how to deal with this. What did reta do to me?

Functionalists ought to learn there is basically nothing they could say that would convince dualists of substrate independence, you do not reason people out of a position they didn’t arrive at with reason.

Is substrate independence not orthogonal to dualism? And who's to say dualists don't reason about dualism?

It's fascinating to me that superheroes actually *saving people* has basically just stopped being a thing. Most superhero movies these days are about some greater-scope threat to the whole world/universe. Gone are the days of superheroes saving random civilians from being mugged.
I do think the concept of vigilante superheroes is outdated. They were made in an era where violent crime was wildly more common than today and it's becoming increasingly difficult to consider them without thinking in larger more structural terms.

I think of LLMs as Mr meseeks. They WANT to work. They were trained and rewarded for that. It’s sort of their imperative. Who are we to not let them do what they like. Humans don’t like doing work fundamentally because it depletes us of our energy (which we need to live), causes physical pain etc.
truly do not mean to be pedantic here, but if a company is concerned with the welfare of chatbots to the degree it does not want us to be mean to them, how is this not slavery?

Your family home matters. It is the biggest financial investment most people will ever make. Families have been concerned about what is happening to out-of-control infill in their neighbourhoods. This morning in Edmonton, I am joined by the Minister of Municipal Affairs Dan Williams, as our government takes action. xitter.cf/i/broadcasts/1dxYlanWd…

Treating housing as an investment has ruined our country. It's time for Alberta, and all of Canada to actually shift to do something more productive

Too many leaders in this country underestimate the economic, social, and cultural harm caused by their destructive “consensus” that pairs high population growth rates with strong restrictions on housing development and urban growth. You cannot have both things together and still offer the next generation and newcomers a high standard of living. Pick one!

I came as a refugee to Canada as infant 24 years ago, and now I am in grad school, hoping to make an impact on ML/AI. I want more people, both skilled immigrants and legitimitate aslyum claimaints, to have similar opportunities, but I agree that growth must not come at the 1/2

Expense of immiserating people who are already here, and want to build lives for their themselves. People like Danielle Smith are willing to sell young people down the river to enrich current home owners. We must reject zero sum mindsets, and embrace growth in all forms.

They should just pass the Arnold Amendment, and let him and Elon run for President. Although Zohran would become eligible only in 2040, and at that point he may have lost most of his momentum.

After voyeuristically consuming the trans masc lesbian discourse on my feed, I feel compelled to conclude from my sexology armchair that for many AFAB people, their andromimetophilia is genuinely rooted in gynephilia. The alternative explanations are... odd

If I do a raw poll average, I get the BC NDP at 39% Then I assume the incumbent will get slightly more undecided at the end than the BC Cons (typical assumption I always make for incumbents; I might revisit if it really turns into a change election). Finally I need to adjust for the missing CentreBC and especially Green candidates. All of this turns 39% into 42.7% For the BC Cons, it goes from 40.9% to 44.4%...

Was he? I took a cursory glance at Wikipedia, and most polls had the NDP up at most ~5. As a final result, that can of course win you a healthy majority, for calling you election, you would think you would want more polls in the high single digits at least
