a 6 yr old demonstrating edmund burke's distinction between the sublime (awe-inspiring, extreme, elephantine) and the beautiful (small, tender, inspires compassion.)
My niece asked me to guess her favorite animal and I have never been more confident in my life. She's six. She has a stuffed elephant she carries by the trunk, elephant pajamas, an elephant on her backpack. I said elephant. She said no. I said elephant again, slower, like she'd misheard. She said "no, ELEPHANTS are my job." Apparently in her head she's a person who takes care of elephants, which is different from liking them, and her actual favorite animal is a moth because they're "soft and they don't know where they're going." I asked my sister about this later and she said it's been going on since August and nobody can get a straight answer about the moth thing either.

1st time seeing someone make a stained glass piece based off my photo. You never know how your work inspires others. Pretty cool if I say so myself. ✌️🐷🐷✌️

This sort of thing is important bc creation stories set the tone for people’s cosmology. Genesis portrays a beginning in which true communication and intimacy exist in a tended garden, spoken into being by a personal deity. Violence and death is the aberration, not the norm.
:’( I kind of can’t believe my rector went to seminary in such beautiful environs. What a place! What a loss!
Always a shame to see unions move away from some of the beautiful symbolism they adopted during the Fraternal Golden Age. In a similar vein, I’m always struck by the beauty of the old IBEW charters.
Just learned tragic news, the @InsulatorsUnion has changed its logo 😭😭 old left, new right.

Today we have been gifted by a friend this wonderful magazine, published by the SPCK in 1949. Packed with detailed information and wonderful illustrations.
These people have no idea just how damp damp can get. I don’t think they realize just how much of this all smells like mildew, not hot coffee and old books.

Russia is purposely sending ethnic minorities into the cannon fodder and yet we have western leftists call Russia an “anti-imperialist” state
