Vegas Loop isn’t just tunnels! In Vegas, besides 14 tunnels, TBC has built 14 stations (28 by end of year), 12 emergency egresses, 6 cross-passages, and 9 "knockout shafts". See below for the construction of a cross-passage connecting "Tunnel-1" and "Tunnel-2" (beneath Paradise Road) to provide access and egress; construction time is ~10 days. Steps: 1. If necessary, treat the ground (typically with grout) between the two tunnels such that it is stable during excavation. 2. Brace the Tunnel-1 wall with a steel frame and open up the concrete Tunnel-1 wall within said frame. 3. Excavate the dirt between the tunnels, installing steel ribs and wood lagging to maintain a safe roof until Tunnel-2 is exposed. This is a slow process of 10 feet per day. 4. Install waterproofing and rebar, the latter which anchors into both Tunnels 1 and 2 (see pic) 5. Install solid steel liner plate (see pic) 6. Pour high-strength concrete around the liner plate, reinforced with the rebar from Step 4 7. Open up Tunnel-2, finalizing the connection Finally, the cross-passage is built out with a walking surface, ventilation, fire suppression valves, fire-rated doors, safety equipment/sensors, lighting, and cameras.
Vegas Loop isn’t just tunnels! It is also stations, merge/exit ramps, cross-passages, ventilation chambers, and emergency egress shafts. See pics for the construction of an egress shaft; construction time is ~8 days. Steps: 1. Excavate down to expose the tunnel exterior 2. Install waterproofing, conduit, and rebar, followed by pouring a concrete base slab adjacent to the tunnel 3. Add steel-reinforced concrete walls and backfill the perimeter 4. Pour a concrete roof (leaving an opening for egress) and pave over the structure with asphalt; final surface impact is ~120 square feet Once the structure is complete, a doorway is cut into the tunnel to connect the tunnel to the shaft. Finally, the shaft is built out with stairs, ventilation, standpipe, safety equipment/sensors, access hatch, lighting, and cameras.

UPDATE BORING COMPANY VEGAS LOOP Ok this is bizarre. I get home from a trip to LA and THIS has been installed in our lobby. It’s a Boring Loop terminal for calling for a car directly to where I live. I assume it would take me into the tunnel at Westgate or Riviera. It means I now have door to door service to the Convention Center or Encore or the Airport. When the Loop is connected to A’s stadium or Allegiant, it would be a non-stop door to door pick up and delivery that’s fast and cheap compared to other services. Crazy! After covering the Loop progress for years they gave me a little present. @LasVegasLocally @SERobinsonJr

I will not pretend that it has not been a tough two weeks. Damien and I tried to finally take a holiday together and it was totally hijacked when three councillors in an incorrect use of the legislation tried to call a council meeting to vote to kill -#SummerInTheCity. 1/2

More than €350 million has already been spent on MetroLink, with transport officials warning the project could exceed its original €7–€12 billion cost estimate. Appearing before the Oireachtas Infrastructure Committee today, transport executives gave few firm answers, including on whether more than €80 million was paid to acquire the former Carlton Cinema site on O'Connell Street for the project. Precast concrete operation at TBC Dubai. The first phase of Dubai Loop will utilize ~25,000 segments, each weighing ~4,000 pounds. Total tunnel weight: ~100 million pounds!

Today, the Clark County Fire Department and The Boring Company Tunnel Rescue Team completed a rigorous hands-on technical rescue exercise inside a Vegas Loop tunnel. These joint trainings help ensure first responders are prepared, coordinated, and ready to respond in any scenario. TBC has hosted trainings for more than 200 firefighters and first responders with more than 150 hours of in-tunnel drills. Thank you to CCFD for the continued collaboration and partnership in keeping safety as top priority in Vegas Loop. @ClarkCountyFD

See how Prufrock continuously mines - pushing and building at the same time. The machines, from Las Vegas to Dubai, are remotely controlled from our Bastrop Operations Center. These advances help TBC deliver more miles each year in the battle against soul-destroying traffic.

The Oxford Road floating bus stops in Manchester are still not working. Time to rethink the design and allow all pedestrians to board and alight the bus without having to cross a cycle lane. As recommended by the British Standard 8300-1:2018.

TBC is excited to announce the first residential Music City Loop station agreement, serving those living at the beautiful Prime, Alcove, and Paramount towers in downtown Nashville. Residents will take an elevator directly to a Loop station within the building, board a Tesla, and be at the airport in ~9 minutes or Lower Broadway in ~2 minutes.

If only we could start planning for this now and not away be playing catch-up what the world of transport will be in the 2030s to help us reclaim our urban realm.
There will be two stages to road transformation. In the first stage, all vehicles will become electric and autonomous. This will reduce accidents, noise, and pollution. We are already starting this transition, and it will be complete by 2035. In the second stage, tunnels will be built to allow autonomous electric traffic to operate underground. This will further improve safety, eliminate noise, decrease travel times, and free the surface for other uses. The construction of these tunnels will be enabled by the low-cost labor of humanoid robots and automated construction equipment. Construction of tunnels will begin in a few years, with significant progress by 2035. Surface streets will become areas for sitting and dining outdoors, with trees, gardens, fountains, and pools to fit our new leisure lifestyle.

Tunnel Vision Challenge results! We've been overwhelmed with the amazing submissions…so we are announcing three winners! The Thrilling Three are: - NOLA Loop (New Orleans, LA) - Ravens Loop (Baltimore, MD) - University Hills Loop (Dallas, TX) What happens next? TBC and the project stakeholders enter into a rigorous diligence process which includes: - Meetings with elected officials, regulators, community leaders, and business leaders - Geotechnical borings - Utility and subsurface infra investigation Once the diligence (100% funded by TBC) is complete, if all 3 projects are feasible, will fund/build all 3 - this would be awesome. If only 1 is feasible, will fund/build 1. IN ADDITION, there were multiple other projects that TBC thought were so compelling that we are going to continue to work with the entrants and try to get them built. This includes the following two: - Hendersonville Utility Tunnel (Hendersonville, TN) - Morgan's Wonderland Tunnel (San Antonio, TX) Thanks again to all of the participants - your enthusiasm and positivity has been inspiring for the TBC team.
Announcing the Tunnel Vision Challenge! Pitch us your best 1-mile tunnel idea (Loop, freight, pedestrian, utility, etc.), we'll pick a winner, and build it…for free! Details: boringcompany.com/tunnelvisi… Criteria: -Usefulness (good bang for the bore) -Stakeholder Engagement (get hyped) -Technical, Economic, and Regulatory Feasibility (success is physically possible) Prufrock was designed to build mega-infrastructure projects in a matter of weeks instead of years - so let’s build!
