Reflecting on my reflections. It’s crazy when something you’ve dreamt about for 10 years finally comes to fruition. hip-hop( the culture, the music, the stories, the creativity) belongs in academic spaces. There is so much psychology in rap music #SiHowTheDoctor #PsycAndFlow – at Miami, FL

It takes an average of 595 days and 3.1 rejections to get a paper accepted in political science. This is the face of rejection and a very sluggish publication system. This makes it very hard for graduate students who only get 5 years of funding and makes a lot of academic work irrelevant to the world (technology like AI develops far faster than our publication system). I'd love to see a larger dataset. But this is not too far away from my own experience.
📊 Based on my journal-submission log since Dec. 2013, I made this figure showing how often manuscripts are rejected—and how long it takes—before (conditional) acceptance. I hope it helps PhD students and junior scholars see the real world of publishing in political science. 💪📚

Together, this work highlights a powerful paradox: Vicarious racism is a psychological stressor, but it is also a catalyst for resistance, solidarity, and social change. Proud of this incredible team: Samantha Tellefsen, Ava Ma de Sousa, and India McCray for doing this work.
