I don’t get folks in their 30s who talk about their “dream” of “early retirement”. One must be truly miserable to find no joy, no satisfaction, no glory and no fun in their profession. I personally fear the day when I won’t be able to work anymore. I fear no longer being able to help patients, do science, teach and practice. Find a profession that is your calling, and love what you do or do something else. No job in the world is 100% joy, neither is family, vacation, hobbies. Some degree of frustration is normal. But as long as your profession gives you dignity and joy and pays the bills, and doesn’t cause you physical pain and mental anguish, no reason to retire early.
