It is a basic principle of American democracy that the government can’t selectively target individuals simply because of their political beliefs or what they say. But that’s exactly what the Trump Administration is doing to Congresswoman Ilhan Omar of Minnesota. To understand why this is so appalling, it’s important to know the facts. Congresswoman Omar came to this country with her father when she was 12 years old. Five years later, her father became a naturalized citizen. If Ilhan had been 18 at the time, she would have had to apply for citizenship separately. But because she was 17, she became a naturalized citizen automatically. Congresswoman Omar went on to graduate from college, work as a community organizer, become the first Somali-American legislator elected to public office in the U.S., and win a seat in Congress. There, she has been one of the Trump Administration’s fiercest critics, which has led the president to repeatedly single her out as someone who he believes does not belong in this country. Now the Administration is actively trying to deport Congresswoman Omar, seemingly based solely on the unsubstantiated theory that she was actually 18 when her father was naturalized, and therefore is not a citizen. Federal agents have raided her home, confiscated personal records, and seized her phone — all to try and uncover a nonexistent smoking gun from 20 years ago that will somehow make their case. Think about that. The full weight of the federal government is being brought down on a law-abiding elected official because she has dared to criticize the president. And it’s not the first time this has happened. Under President Trump, the Justice Department has repeatedly gone after those he considers his political enemies — from the Attorney General of New York, to the former head of the FBI, to members of the Federal Reserve. In those cases, the prosecutions either stalled or were dismissed for having no basis in law, and the same is likely to happen in this case. But not before Congresswoman Omar’s life has been turned upside down, her legal bills have piled up, and she’s been forced to spend time fighting unsubstantiated charges instead of serving the people of Minnesota. The fact that any president, or any administration, is willing to engage in such transparent efforts to intimidate someone should outrage all Americans, regardless of how they feel about Congresswoman Omar’s political views. Because if this becomes the new normal, there’s no reason to believe it will stop with her — or that future presidents, in either party, won’t do the same.

This is all so unnecessary. I am heartbroken for the people you work with. This has been a dangerous campaign by the UCP to vilify the very people that have moved here, often for a better life…and at the end of the day, except for indigenous people, we are all immigrants.
I also work (volunteer) with immigrants and let me tell you ….they are worried to death. I try to keep reassuring them everything will be ok, that there are good people out there. What a dilemma for these hard working people who just want a chance to succeed

The Alberta taxpayers provides $1.78B annually in subsidies to the oil and gas industry. Most Albertans argue that highly profitable, mature corporations should cover their own operational costs without taxpayer handouts. A 2026 Pembina Institute poll found that 61% of Albertans oppose using taxpayer money to subsidize the highly profitable oil & gas industry. #Alberta iisd.org/articles/deep-dive/…

Alberta 👏 does 👏 not 👏 make 👏 equalization 👏 payments. Albertans pay the same federal tax rate as every other Canadian. Earn more, pay more. I'm so tired of the manufactured outrage. So tired. #ABPoli #CdnPoli

This is why Democrats needs to win the House and Senate -- so that Kimberly Guilfoyle has to testify under oath.
White House insiders say Kimberly Guilfoyle has “substantial blackmail” on the Trump Family because Don Jr. “talks too much,” “takes too many drugs,” “is desperate to fit in and be liked,” “hates his siblings and talks nonstop shit on them,” and “is easily manipulated by basic, lazy expressions of affection” after a childhood from never getting any from his father. — The Halfway Cafe

Those of us of a certain age have gotten to watch two mayors grow into their jobs over many years. Both @AndrewKnack and @JeromyYYC have stepped up in their roles and deserve our thanks and acknowledgement.
Andrew Knack: "Treaty is the foundation of our country and our promise to share in this land and its prosperity. I want to especially thank the leaders from Treaty 6, 7 and 8 for leading the way, standing strong and defending Canada."

Dear Danielle Smith @ABDanielleSmith and Rick Wilson @Richard4Alberta, I am pleading with you Danielle Smith, Rick Wilson, and all individuals in Alberta who are involved with deciding the cutoff IQ score that grants individuals the qualification of getting PDD, to recognize that IQ doesn't take into account the level of adaptability of individuals and their ability to live on their own or their ability to hold and keep a job. My daughter’s IQ score is three points higher than the cutoff for PDD. She underwent an Adaptability Assessment that indicated that my daughter would not be able to live on her own nor be able to maintain a job. However, PDD will not take the results of her Adaptability Assessment into account. In addition, not qualifying for PDD pushed my daughter into ADAP. As a result of being pushed into ADAP and not qualifying for PDD, my daughter will likely have to live with my husband and I for the long term because she can’t afford to pay for a supportive roommate, rent, and other living expenses. My husband and I are burned out from not having the services that our adult children need, from not having access to respite, and for the daily support that we need to provide to our two adult children that live with us. We would appreciate a response from either Danielle Smith or Rick Wilson. Sincerely, Wenda Toews

edmontonjournal.com/opinion/… Take a moment to read. The math is simple. We have double the population with less hospital beds then in the 1980s. It isn't immigrants. It's govt's ignoring our hospital and workforce planning and building. It's lack of HCWs and BEDs! 1/2

Hard pivot from her usual message about Alberta’s economic health Separatist leader now says wasn’t her who made your life harder, it was immigrants They raised car insurance and electricity bills, started private healthcare, didn’t protect rents Send her a message on Monday!
It cannot be understated: our broken immigration system has caused high unemployment, high home prices and high inflation. It must be fixed and provincial rights strengthened. Today, the Prime Minister got a copy of our referendum questions including the 9 on immigration and constitutional reforms. If Albertans give us a strong mandate on these questions, our government will get right to work on these needed reforms. And as I’ve said many times, please vote for Option 1, a strong Alberta within a united Canada, and yes to the rest! 🍁

I would love to see a lot this. We need accountability in healthcare. We need a system that is accountable to the public for not only data but results. If it doesn't work we need to know why and government needs to be held accountable to make it work.
I've been critical of many aspects of our health system and tried to gather data to support those criticisms. Because I think it's not only important but possible for us to do better. What would I change? Glad you asked. healthdatabc.ca/platform/

Healthcare is run by the provinces. Demand answers from your premier instead of letting them off the hook by blaming Carney. 🤦‍♀️ #DougFordIsCORRUPT
Canada’s healthcare isn’t “strained.” It’s broken. Rushed my daughter to the ER today. Ambulance? Last time was a 45 minute wait with my son. 35 minutes just to reach triage while she’s in a real medical emergency. 2 hours to see a doctor. Hallways full of people crying, begging for help. And while families are living this nightmare, Carney’s Century Initiative wants to crank population targets like the system isn’t already on its knees. Canadians aren’t props for the elites’ get richer fantasies. Tell Carney to pound sand 😡
