Tonight, Sacramento City Council approved the 2040 General Plan. Single family zoning is gone, and housing near transit is legal! The plan goes into effect in March, and the zoning code overhaul to bring our ordinances in line with the plan will happen this year--so stay tuned!

40 diners takes the space of 3 parked cars and I’m supposed to believe removing this is better for the local economy?

It drives me kind of nuts how vague our conversations about climate change can be, so let's just say the quiet part loud: 40% of US emissions come from the manufacture and driving of passenger cars. Not just "transport", not just "industry"; cars. usa.streetsblog.org/2024/01/…

There's no better way to commemorate #CleanAirDay and the #WeekWithoutDriving then biking over to the ribbon cutting for the Central City Mobility Project! The new pedestrian and bike improvements will go a long way towards improving public safety on the grid, and encouraging more folks to get out and enjoy all that midtown and downtown Sacramento have to offer 📷 Many thanks to our D4 Active Transportation Commissioner, Ali Doerr Westbrook for joining me in my ride and to all of the elected officials and partners who helped make this project possible. Special shout-out to our amazing Public Works team for getting this complex project across the finish line!

The best thing about biking everywhere is that when your parents call to complain about gas prices you get to say "Gas went up? Had no idea."

Watching now this is honestly inspiring. I think this is the most significant bottom up groundswell for shift in transpo priorities to active transportation since I moved here in 2012. This is the basic ask. Good synergy with proposed sales tax measure..

Tomorrow night the City Council will discuss the City’s 2040 General Plan update. This plan impacts housing development, mobility, parks, historical and cultural resources, environmental resources, and much more. This update will be the first to include an Environmental Justice Element, which includes some exciting ideas for how to help communities who have historically be left behind (or harmed) by land use decisions and investments. There are also multiple community plans for areas like the Central City and East Sacramento.
Please join us for what I am sure will be a robust discussion on what’s in the draft General Plan so far, but don’t worry – this is not going to be the last time the public provides input on the General Plan! Many more workshops and public comment opportunities are anticipated this fall and winter, with the final plan being adopted in early 2024.

“How do you change a system that was never design to be equitable?”
This is the question that @VeronicaODavis considers in her new book, ‘Inclusive Transportation: A Manifesto for Repairing Divided Communities.’
I just finished it and I’m dying to talk about it, so here goes.

We're going the wrong way. New report estimates the number of people killed by cars while walking is the highest since 1981. Supersizing American roads and vehicles has supersized pedestrian deaths ~89% since 2010. This is a 100% preventable crisis. ghsa.org/resources/Pedestria…
