We’re incredibly proud to see members of the Trauma Masterclass faculty recognised across national news this week for their extraordinary work in emergency and trauma care.
The story highlighted the efforts of Dr David McCreary (@dmccreary85) and A/Prof Joseph Mathew (@trauma_jm) in the care of US Marine Travis Reyes following a catastrophic military aircraft crash in the Northern Territory.
From retrieval medicine at the crash site through to complex trauma care at The Alfred, their leadership, skill and commitment helped shape an outcome that once seemed impossible.
This is the calibre of clinicians behind the Trauma Masterclass underway this year in Prato, Italy, bringing together faculty whose experience and expertise are second to none.

A chest drain will go in the same direction as the tunnel you make through the chest.
Common error is for a pneumothorax drain to go down & back. This happens because when we stand next to the bed our instruments naturally point in that direction.
Solution…….
Important concept here for those of us in early evolution trauma systems.
