As a chronically ill & disabled filmmaker, I'm excited to see Michael J. Fox receive the Bob Hope Humanitarian Award, but the while audience looks sad. 1. Production team needed an omni mic in front of him & 2. That Lola Falana joke should have killed. He's done great! Congrats!

Many old adages treated as sage wisdom in the business are really just self-fulfilling prophecies. I didn't know this, but I'm not surprised. Women are also considered money losers, but our budgets are smaller from production to marketing to screens. The numbers are skewed!
There are 750 screens in the film market labeled "the Caribbean". A majority Black audience and Black-led films do well there. Not tracked by Box Office Mojo or The Numbers. Should b under international If tracked, it'd prove Black-led casts to be more lucrative & we'd get more

Our approach to packaging is we’re trying to evolve to say how can we make the best possible film so it can compel people in an undeniable way to see it in a movie theater & if they do go see it it’s going to work in home video, it’s going to work on pay, it’s going to work on TV

Tied of seeing these stories where stars who have had big paydays think they're getting no offers... while their agents are like, "It's gonna cost you $50k for me to even pass this script to my client" (or just don't share even the logline).
Elliot Page says he has received NO role offers despite the huge success of “The Odyssey”, and believes being transgender has made it harder for him to get cast as Hollywood still needs to ADAPT 😲 He also opens up about feeling deeply UNCOMFORTABLE while working on Inception and other projects before his transition, but believes his BIGGEST successes are still ahead of him 👀 “I was seen in a certain way before and it’s different now, so maybe there is something to reaching out to people and trying to create projects that way. But it’s a little tricky for me to get cast now, for obvious reasons.”

The industry loves to hold these up as the gold standard - and I'm glad when they hit - but for every micro budget picked up by a major distributor & (somewhat) marketed, there's an infinite graveyard of broken dreams. Many talented but not well-resourced visionaries unsung.
How did a Gen Z filmmaker make one of the year's best movies for just $150,000 and a car? @CaseyMLoving goes behind Alex Ullom's debut feature “It Ends,” a Neon horror film made with four actors, a car and a scrappy group of collaborators that included a magician, a “Grand Theft Auto” CGI artist and Letterboxd. thewrap.com/creative-content…

Maybe it's the autism, but the industry often has me asking, WHY do we do it like this? And I basically just decided I wouldn't and built @DisasterCap focused on emerging writers & directors in horror and giving them the support - including leadership skills - to do it better.
Be careful with obsessive, mean men who are "creatives" Not only are they strategic about backstabbing friends & pulling from women's work to be crowned "genius", they have no creative vision beyond "transgression". They archive & reproduce fragments, bits of everyone elses soul
