Israel is currently engaged in a brutal, mass-murdering war of expansion in Lebanon. And there is a distinct possibility that Trump is simply using this ceasefire to rearm and maneuver military assets before resuming hostilities. The pope plans to hold a vigil for peace tomorrow, calling on Catholics around the world to come together to pray for an end to the violence. Meanwhile, Republicans on social media are smearing him as a demonic communist for daring to challenge their cult leader's bloodthirsty instincts. "God does not bless any conflict," Leo wrote on X. "Anyone who is a disciple of Christ, the Prince of Peace, is never on the side of those who once wielded the sword and today drop bombs. Military action will not create space for freedom or times of #Peace, which comes only from the patient promotion of coexistence and dialogue among peoples." The post was a clear and direct refutation of Hegseth's repeated attempts to characterize this illegal child-murdering war as sanctioned by Jesus Christ. He has called for giving "no quarter" to the "barbaric savages" of Iran and demanded that the American people pray for victory "in the name of Jesus Christ." As anyone who has taken even a cursory glance at a bible knows, Jesus blessed the peacemakers and never endorsed war.
