Online Creators are bringing back destination viewing. Streamers brought on the binge era. Sports was the last man standing for destination viewing. Now Creators are bringing in audiences at a specific time again by Live Steaming. It was never the format and always the content.

I had the privilege of joining @fred_bf @JJ_McCullough and @MattColbo at the #DFCsummit today, speaking about what it means to be a Canadian Content Creator in a #C11 world. Thank you @DigitalFirstCan for the opportunity to share my thoughts.

Great to speak with @JeanettePatell and @jaykerrwilson to a packed house at the 2nd Annual @DigitalFirstCan summit about how far digital first creators come as a constituency over the past two years.
Steve de Eyre of TikTok Canada shares how policy makers now understand that this is the next generation of content creation and are thinking how they can support creators.

This is awesome. A free and open internet has made stuff like this possible. Fight for it.
I love their videos. The beautiful Qu'Appelle valley.

Thread/ So the CRTC has laid out their #billC11 roadmap. I have some immediate thoughts. 1. Defining CANCON should probably be the first thing we tackle not the last.
Have you heard of #C11 (the Online Streaming Act)? We have issued a detailed plan describing what’s happening and when! ow.ly/8lGy50OieME

Would this be ok? "Calm down, authors. This has nothing to do with you. We don't regulate authors, but we require bookstores to put your books on the bottom shelf, and libraries have to keep them in the back room."

Guess which one of these segments of the Canadian creative industry the government is trying to kill through C-11. The one that has global success or the one no one anywhere watches?
While an industry celebrates "Canadian Screens Week" with a bunch of stuff mostly noone watches. Channels like @SimpleSongs @WatchMojo Valnet , KallmeKris @LinusTech and @TypicalGamer had several millions of people around the world watch them. Did they win anything?

I know a grand total of 0 Creators that were paid anything to do any advocacy on C11.....literal 0. Throwing around accusation like this without evidence is gross.

In 2013 I saw an opportunity in social media… It saved our family from financial ruin. A small group of others saw it too and I’m fiercely supportive of them.

Not gonna lie this actually made me a little bit emotional. Politics is nasty. This process has been disheartening, frustrating and at times scary. I want to thank @mgeist for doing this. Please read this. I will have more soon.

We never asked for this, nor did the millions of CDN parents, teachers caregivers who access our content for free on YouTube. Looking forward to seeing you rationalize this when CDNs can’t access free educational content for their preschoolers cuz we’re not ‘professional’ #C11
Replying to @pablorodriguez
As promised, we are accepting amendments that ensure tech giants pay their fair share toward our culture, and we are declining the amendments that create loopholes. That’s what Canadian artists and creators have asked us to do. (2/4)

What a truly appalling spit in the face. The creator community of this country rose up in furious opposition to C-11 and the Senate responded with amendments that addressed many of our concerns. But the Liberal government doesn’t care. So maddening. All that activism for nothing.

Canadian’s consider sending a message to your MPs about Bill C-11. It could have a big impact on digital creators (while also not changing the problems with CanCon) And even if we work in the Canadian TV industry, who of us isn’t also a digital creator. digitalfirstcanada.ca/bills/…

Hey @SOCANmusic your future does not lie with bureaucrats you are trying to protect. It is firmly in the hands of the Digital Creators you are sacrificing. Yours and Creators International exposure/revenue is at risk and you don't care. It is noted.

If the minister is concerned then maybe… make it clear in the bill? Why leave it to interpretation?#fixbillc11
Once again, the Trudeau government wants us to believe something is being done TO them instead of BY them. Watch as I asked Trudeau’s Senate point man @SenMarcGold why his govt is being so disingenuous about their online censorship bill #C11:
