We are grateful to Bill Shishima for sharing his family's story with us during the research phase of this film, which served as a significant inspiration behind the "Sakamoto family" characters in Desolate Dreams. #DesolateDreams #JapaneseAmericanHistory #WWIlFilm #HeartMountain
Bill Shishima returned to @HeartMountainWY for our 2024 pilgrimage with many members of his family. Over his right shoulder is a photo in our museum of him as a toddler in his family's Little Tokyo grocery store.

This Juneteenth, we honor Karen "Kiwi" Burch, the historian of the Albright-Marshall family that helped preserve the homes of their Japanese American neighbors in J-Flats during World War II. She left us too soon last month at age 71.
