Given that Patrick Stewart is trending and record numbers of people have just voted for Reform UK who want to leave the ECHR, there seems no better time to repost this...

Early days, but Sir Keir Starmer made himself an international statesman on his visit to the White House. A leader and a diplomat. A serious Prime Minister rather than a social media clickbait merchant. Pulled off something we haven’t seen since Blair and Bush in terms of cementing special relationship with USA.
It won’t be universally popular. He will be attacked by left and right, but he’s used to that. Doesn’t seem to bother him.
What he’s done is look after the national interest and that’s all you want to see from your PM.

MUST-WATCH: House GOP leadership refused to allow Rep. Brittany Peterson, who's on maternity leave, to vote remotely, but that didn't stop her.
She showed up, not only voted but also spoke out against the GOP budget proposal with Sam, who turned 1 month old today, in her hands.

A bit of good news: NHS England hospital waiting list falls for 4th month in row. The lowest figures since April 2023. Considering the “quademic” and winter months, this is an achievement for both the NHS and Labour government.
So it’ll obviously be all over the news, right?

A 22-year-old in Wisconsin died after a severe asthma attack because he couldn't afford the price of his inhaler, which was no longer covered by his insurance.
The pharmacy benefit manager (PBM) that rescheduled his medication is OptumRx, which is a subsidiary of UnitedHealth Group.
This young man was murdered by the for-profit healthcare system in the United States.

GO WELL MARIANNE
“I got you to kiss goodnight...” *
Very sad to learn of the passing of Marianne Faithfull in London today at the age of 78.
It seems somehow appropriate to republish the words she posted following David’s death in 2016, as they could have been written for her...

Brian Aris captured this beautiful portrait of Marianne with David in 1991.
The other two images were taken by Terry O’Neill during the filming of The 1980 Floor Show in 1973.
* The lyric here is from the Sonny and Cher song I Got You Babe, which Marianne performed dressed in a backless nun’s habit in an unforgettable duet with David during The 1980 Floor Show.

Mr. President: Instead of stealing Greenland from Denmark, I have a better idea.
In Denmark, everyone is guaranteed health care, college education is free, parents receive 1-year of paid paternity leave & workers don’t make less than $22 an hour.
Let's steal those ideas.

Another music department earmarked to go. This is a really big deal. Cardiff's Music department is large, well-resourced, and much esteemed. If Music can go at a Russell Group university like this, then no course is safe. walesonline.co.uk/news/educa…

Where's the bloody left eh? Whatever happened to them? We have an extreme right wing billionaire trying to bring down a Labour prime minister with outright lies. Shouldn't they be putting aside their differences and rallying to Starmer's defence?
