People should learn what boycott means before preaching to others. It is a form of protest, which aims to inflict economic loss to the target institution/company. Economic loss doesn’t only come from not spending on a product, there are other facets to it. For example, if you’re boycotting starbuc*s and not buying their coffee, but still sitting inside one of its shops and make it seem “popular” to non participants, that defeats the purpose of boycott. Or using your accumulated stars to buy a free coffee from the shop. Or wearing a starbuc*s tshirt. Or using a mug you bought from there. You are STILL marketing the company while claiming you’re boycotting. Because to an outsider, this gives the idea of “oh that company/product looks sweet, maybe I should get something from there”and you’re indirectly making the company earn money with your contradicting actions. If you’re boycotting something, you should avoid everything about the target and be loud about why you’re avoiding it. That’s the whole purpose of it. Streaming lads songs on spotify or apple music, interacting with social media posts, logging into game, using your accumulated in game resources… These are all against the mentality of boycott. Not everyone can participate a boycott %100 and not every boycott is the same, some things are unavoidable in the world we live in and current conjuncture I understand BUT since we’re talking about a game, which can be fully avoided unless you’re an addict, if you cannot fully commit to boycotting it you should not dictate others about what to do too. Don’t be a performative fuck. Nobody cares if you still play the game or not. But if your actions contradict your words, you should stop talking about it at all and leave others alone.
