A new pill millipede from the Great Smokies!
Pleased to present Nearctomeris smoky, a new species of pill millipede from the Great Smoky Mountains. This paper was led by my fabulous postdoc Ernesto Recuero (proving, for better or worse, that it's not ALL beetles all the time in the Caterino Lab!) zookeys.pensoft.net/article/…

Unlike the ivory-billed woodpecker, this animal exists! A new species and first of its family to be documented from South America, a fantastic find!

In the pauropod world, the Eurypauropodidae are the Ferraris: the head-turning hot shots that everyone envies. And this paper has three of them, including two new species from China! zookeys.pensoft.net/article/… Check them out! @ZooKeys_Journal

Two new pillipede species from Laos! Both in the genus Hyperglomeris, this study incorporates genetic data. CO1 still isn't enough to sort out questions of relatedness among genera in the Glomeridae. zookeys.pensoft.net/article/… @ZooKeys_Journal

This is a tour de force of a publication! Easy to see that a huge amount of work went into this, very nice!

Lots of cool critters around deadwood on the Reading Uni campus with @BugBoyDawid today. Best were my first Neelid springtails - Neelus murinus and Megalothorax minimus, the latter only 0.3mm long! Also lots of pauropods and other funky Myriapods like Strigamia crassipes (pic 4)

Even when you're a powerful predator like a centipede, you can't let you guard down. Some ants specifically prey on centipedes! In the eastern US, we have a few species of Stigmatomma which do this.
blog.livedoor.jp/antroom/arc…

New Striariids just dropped! The known diversity of this family has absolutely exploded since this series of papers started in 2020, with a center of diversity in the Pacific Northwest region of North America.

Nice video of a Geophilomorph centipede. Look closely and you can see some eggs through her exoskeleton!
変わった色のジムカデと思いよく見てみると、丸いものが透けて見えています。 卵っぽいですね。

Little insect activity at Cwm Tips, near Beddau, today but pleasing to find a number of Beddau Beast (Cranogona dalensi) millipedes under dead wood and rocks at various locations across the site. Cwm Tips is currently the only known UK site for this millipede.
