From delay to delivery. 🏗️🔥 A year ago, I vowed that a new contractor would be appointed for the Sarah Baartman Centre of Remembrance in Hankey, Eastern Cape, and that the project would be put back on the path to completion after more than 10 years of delays. 🤝 This morning, I made good on that promise by handing over the site to the newly appointed contractor. Once completed, the Sarah Baartman Centre of Remembrance will honor her memory with the dignity and respect she deserves, while creating jobs and opportunities for the local community. This is how we build a better South Africa. #LetsBuildSA 💙🇿🇦

I welcome the Western Cape High Court’s order authorising the next steps in our court application concerning Knoflokskraal. This marks the first step in our efforts to restore the rule of law and address the unlawful occupation of this state land. The order allows us to serve and notify all affected parties, including through public notices and community announcements, ensuring that everyone has an opportunity to engage with the legal process. We will not allow the illegal occupation of our land parcels to go unaddressed. We will pursue this matter through lawful, transparent and court-supervised processes to ensure that the rule of law prevails. Our application and supporting documentation can be found here: drive.google.com/drive/folde…

A great start to the second last week before the elections with a public meeting in Ward 18, eThekwini with DA candidate Mel Brauteseth last night. I was particularly pleased with the many unsolicited endorsements that came from the community in support of Mel and the DA to govern the municipality. We are ready to get our city working for all!

Public Works and Infrastructure MEC, Martin Meyer and I are united in our commitment to protecting jobs, supporting local businesses and unlocking economic opportunities on the KwaZulu-Natal South Coast. We met with the local community today after a regrettable court-ordered delay to the handover of six coastal leases which threatens investment, tourism and job creation. We will urgently challenge the order and work to ensure these public assets benefit local communities. We stand on the side of the community and those who stand to lose their jobs because of this action. We will fight for them and on their behalf. Our priority is clear: protecting livelihoods, creating jobs and ensuring public assets work for the people.

NEWS: The DA-run Umngeni Local Municipality in Howick has agreed to step in and help the ANC-run Impendle Local Municipality with waste collection in some areas. Umngeni and Impendle are neighbours. The request to help came after service delivery collapsed in Impendle following looting of public funds that led to non-payment of staff salaries - KZN Tonight Podcast

Interesting polling from MarkData for eNCA. It’s time to bring these attacks to an end!

Same country. Very different results. 💙 Working streetlights, clean streets and reliable services shouldn't be too much to ask for. On 4 November, you decide what kind of future you want for your community. 🗳️ Stop the chaos. Start service delivery. Vote DA.

Today was the culmination of 16 events this week and not even 37 degree heat could keep us from the campaign trail in KwaDukuza today. Wonderful to be with our Mayoral Candidate, Privi Makhan, political head Sakhile Mngadi and all of our candidates. I’m looking forward to seeing the DA get this municipality working for all. 18 days to go!

1/ Today, Public Works and Infrastructure took an important step to protect 235 hectares of land at Ongegunde Vryheid near Cape St Francis for conservation after a decade of administrative delays. This has been made possible because of our strong partnership with Kouga Municipality.

2/ This new nature reserve will: - Protect endangered vegetation, wetlands, wildlife and our natural heritage. - Support local tourism and create lasting benefits for the Kouga community. - Place management responsibility with Kouga Municipality. - Deliver these goals at no operational cost to the Department. Unused government land must not remain idle when it can benefit communities and support job creation through tourism. By overcoming these delays, we are ensuring that public assets are used for public good.
