Summer upd Within 3 months we shipped governance, onchain funding, verified impact credentials, and a new way to sponsor cleanups directly. It is a full-circle DMRV tool: from the time it is organised to the verified onchain record to the funding that makes the next one possible

bye FC just right on time we removed the miniapp from there 👋
Ok had some time to sleep on this. My problems with the new Balaji rules for Farcaster and why I voted no: - The consent is coerced. "Not now" and "Vote to leave" both make your account read-only. You either submit or lose your voice in the client you built your audience on. - It isn't really a vote. Voting to stay means handing the core team the power to rewrite the Network Code whenever they like, with no ongoing say for you. That's closer to a loyalty oath than to democracy, and the onchain NFT makes who signed public and permanent. Plus dangling an NFT to a web3 audience feels like an attempt to buy votes from degens who love minting NFTs. - The rules reach back in time. The new code applies to your past posts, written before any of these rules existed. I’ve seen countless reports of users being banned already the minute they log back in, from something they said years ago. - The standards are vague. "Starting or feeding fights," "low-quality posts," "clear hoaxes" and "hyping token prices repeatedly" can stretch to cover almost any dissent. HIGHLY subjective and becomes a kingdom, not a democracy. - "Rule of code" is mostly marketing. The prompts can change at any time, they admit to "manual judgment calls," and nothing mentions appeals or notice before a penalty. - Membership is ideological. The app is pitched as a community "for techno-optimists," and people who "don't like the idea of Singapore" are told to leave. That filters people by viewpoint, not conduct. And Singapore is a strange model to pick for speech, given its fake-news law and its record of defamation suits. I am a proud techno-optimist. But I am also a proud freedom of speech absolutist, and proponent of decentralization. Calling this approach “techno optimism” feels more like gaslighting and a power trip on Balaji’s part to me.

DeCleanup Network retweeted
I want to share what happened to me, because I'm still in shock and I want to prevent from happening to others. Two weeks ago, an old friend reached out to catch up through @telegram I said yes. I've been job hunting, I miss my professional friends, and honestly, hearing from someone I hadn't talked to in a while felt good. We got on a video call. My mic glitched partway through, so I installed the update it asked for. I didn't think twice. It was my friend's face. My friend's voice. The conversation was normal. Nothing about it felt wrong. That update was malware. I was temporarily trading on a hot wallet @MetaMask . (I know, idiot move). While we talked, it was quietly draining everything I owned. 1.7 BTC. 10 ETH. Around $180,000. Gone before I even knew to be afraid. That money wasn't just numbers to me. It was five years of discipline, of saying no to things so I could say yes to my future. It was the down payment on a house. It was the freedom to retire early, or at least feel some sense of security. I used to tell people I was financially independent. I was proud of that. It was proof I could take care of myself. Now I open my wallet and see zero, and I feel something I've never let myself feel before: helpless. Defeated. Destitute. I'm unemployed right now too, actively interviewing, trying to hold it together while I process losing my savings and rebuild a career at the same time. Some days I feel stupid for trusting someone I've known for years. Most days I just feel numb, replaying what happened over and over. I'm sharing this publicly for another reason too. This wasn't a random phishing email or an obvious scam. It was a deepfake, real-time, on a video call, with a face and voice I'd known for years. If it can happen to me, it can happen to anyone, and I don't want the embarrassment of admitting that to stop me from warning other people. If a "friend" ever asks you to install something mid-call, especially anything framed as fixing audio or video, stop and verify through a separate channel first, a text, a call to a number you already had, another social media platform, anything outside that same conversation. Don't do it in the moment, no matter how real it looks or sounds. Now, here’s the hard part for me. I’m not asking because I think I'm owed anything. I'm asking because I don't know what else to do, and because I know there are people out there who understand how fast something like this can happen to anyone, no matter how careful you think you are. If you can give anything, it matters more than you know. If you can't, please share this. Someone reading it might warn someone else, or reach someone who can help. Thank you for reading this far. Thank you for however you're able to show up for me. And please reach out to me if you’re able to help.

If the proposal passes: tokens stay as they are. Both chains, one dApp, keep earning and growing. If the proposal doesn’t pass: Base shuts down and remaining $bDCU gets distributed. 50% to Base holders, 40% to Celo users, 10% to the team.

What is working: dApp on Celo dapp.decleanup.net Real cleanups in Thailand, Nigeria, Kenya, Japan. Verified onchain impact. A live governance layer on @gardens_fund That’s where the protocol lives. That’s where we focus.

So here’s the proposal. Wind down the Farcaster Mini App. Bring Base chain natively into dapp.decleanup.net alongside Celo. When you’re ready for governance, request $cDCU. The system reads your $bDCU balance and mints the equivalent on Celo. Your levels stay on Base.

We’re bringing a proposal to the DeCleanup Network community and we want your vote. It’s about where the protocol goes next, and being honest about what didn’t work. app.gardens.fund/gardens/422… 🧵

First we built a Mini App on Farcaster to test the idea fast. The problem: Farcaster users didn’t self-select for picking up trash. The people who actually do cleanups, organizers, volunteers, ReFi communities, had no easy way in. Low retention. No real cleanup community formed.
