🚨 Thoracic Endovascular Aortic Repair (TEVAR): A minimally invasive, life-saving procedure to repair thoracic aortic aneurysms and prevent rupture — performed by interventional radiologists using image-guided precision. 🩻 Early detection, meticulous planning, and vigilant post-op spinal cord monitoring are key to success. #SIR #SIRRFS #TEVAR #AorticAneurysm #EndovascularRepair #IR #VascularMedicine #InterventionalRadiology #MedEd #MinimallyInvasive

One sudden ECG, one crash on the highway, one unexpected phone call — and everything changes. As a cardiologist and leader, I see daily how fragile plans, careers, and identities really are. Patients arrive with lives paused; families’ priorities rearrange in an instant. Those moments are a constant reminder to stay humble, to lead with compassion, and to make every interaction count. We can’t control every outcome, but we can control how we show up: listen more, assume less, communicate clearly, and design systems that protect the moments that matter. Invest in relationships, mentorship, and team resilience today — because the person you are supporting now might be the one who carries your work forward tomorrow. Don’t take health, time, or trust for granted. Reflect on one change you can make this week to be kinder, clearer, or more present — then do it. What small change will you commit to today? #Medicine #Leadership #Gratitude #Cardiology #Resilience

🚨Last chance - download this today before it disappears into the ESR ether! 👇
IMPORTANT REMINDER: In England & Wales your annual benefit or "Total Reward" statement will update mid August. Although its not a good document IMHO (and the new style post August update is *even worse* IMHO), its all you have, and the new one will replace the old one. (and if there is no new one for you or its blank, it might also replace the old one, so you will have nothing). Be sure to download it and keep it safe / email it to your personal email etc EVERY YEAR totalrewardstatements.nhs.uk… Pls share/RT

Doctors do not have a gold plated pension. We contribute 12.5% of our income into it. If our base pay was to grow at 4% per year for the next 44 years (doctor starts work at aged 24) If we took the same 12.5% and put that money into a SMP 500 tracker we would have a pension pot of Wait for it £13 million If we live another 20 years in retirement and draw down 4% a year we would leave our family with balance in our SIPP of £38.6 million And that including drawing down £500k pa in year one of retirement with would also grow to £1.4m annual drawdown per year after 20 years. Doctors dont have a gold plated pension. They subsidise the NHS pension.

All the while, we are scared about huge unpredictable tax bills. The easiest solution is to refuse to do work whilst the waiting lists grow. If this mess was sorted, I wouldn't mind doing extra lists but at present, doing less is safest. Madness from pension agency and the Gov!

Replying to @DrDLittle
Lets break this down. @nhs_pensions are the pensions scheme administrator for the most Annual Allowance @HMRCgovuk members by a large margin. And right now we are seeing error after error by the scheme administrator. Its negligence on a gross scale IMHO. Ive being saying for years, AA is not suited to DB schemes; and its not suited for self assessment. Adding attrocious quality AA pensions adminstration makes this unworkable. The whole thing is a bad joke, with ridiculous undeliverable timescales, whilst the NHS is imploding. @wesstreeting needs to have a very close look at this and the pensions administration of the (generally excellent) NHS pension scheme is woeful at the moment.

(6) in my view it’s past time @DHSCgovuk @HMRCgovuk to put out urgent guidance that due to the administration failures of @nhs_pensions (and to be fair other pensions agencies affecting doctors) that deadlines need to be formally relaxed around RPSS and SA for 23/24 RT if agree

Seriously, this is something else. It will soon be possible to be a graduate on minimum wage in the UK and face a 37% marginal tax rate (20% income tax, 8% NI, plus 9% uni fees repayment). Throw in auto-enrolment at 5% and 6% loan repay for postgrads and it's 48%

People messaging @bbc5live seem to be getting very exercised at reports of ‘some’ NHS consultants being paid £200 an hour for overtime. A few years ago I was in a meeting with a planning barrister during normal working hours. He charged £500 an hour (+VAT). No lives were saved.

This is of course, at the moment, speculation. Speculation that is seen before every budget albeit the speculation is louder this year, it is still just that Any government would be foolish to not consider the secondary behavioural impacts in plans of senior people in the NHS
Changing pension rules every 5 minutes. Had what I thought was contractual arrangement when started my pension. Mortgage planning in the bin due to government using my pension as petty cash. More changes. Not yours hands off! ⁦@goldstone_tony⁩ telegraph.co.uk/money/pensio…
