Wind and solar now supply 40% of Britain's electricity demand. What a remarkable change has been made over the last decade!  That puts us ahead of most major world economies. A bit of positive news for your weekend read at Electric Insights: reports.electricinsights.co.…

Interesting! NESO is buying back 400MW from Hornsea 1 after it self-curtailed (wholesale prices maybe?)

Great Britain: NESO's Ten Year Outlook cut offshore wind for 2030 to 33.6 GW, a more deliverable pipeline. But it assumes 4 to 6 GW of connections each year after that, against the 1.3 GW GB actually managed in 2025. That's the harder number to believe.

As we all know high oil prices and disruption in the Strait of Hormuz are putting growing pressure on conventional plastic producers. Many petrochemical plants in Asia Pacific depend on fossil fuel supplies from the Middle East, so disruptions are already having a real impact. LG Chem temporarily shut its 800,000-tonne-per-year ethylene plant due to naphtha shortages, while polyethylene and polypropylene production in Japan has reportedly fallen by as much as 27% and 16%. It’s a clear example of how disruption in global energy supply chains can quickly affect plastics production and availability. One to watch closely for the plastics and packaging sectors. #Plastics #Petrochemicals #SupplyChain #OilPrices

Contrast Dolly Parton talking about child literacy with the splenetic car crash in the White House, and ask yourself ‘What does leadership look like ?

She lived in the light
If anyone asked me who my inspiration in life was. As a female I have to say Dolly. She was truly amazing. I will be saying many prayers of thanks for her life, her beautiful words and kindness. My thoughts are with her family. RIP Dolly 🙏🏼 In the immortal words of my Rhinestone lady legend, “If you don't like the road you're walking, start paving another one.”

I've seen a massive spike in views of my blog. It's not humans: it's gone up by two orders of magnitude over a few weeks. It's probably being scraped for training data. It's been scraped before, but *nothing* like this much. So what is suddenly going on?

Niche knowledge acquired by reading Hornblower.
The Bosuns Call is a whistle used to make announcements or pipes in @RoyalNavy which used to be used for all sorts of things. Such as to inform the crew to get their food whilst it’s still hot, hence ‘piping hot’ and at the end of the day when all must be quiet we ‘Pipe Down’
