Industry defenders will argue, “but Revlimid has competition.” Here’s @DavidP4AD explaining why that’s not actually true.
Revlimid is a cancer treatment that is marketed by Bristol Myers Squibb. It carries a list price of over $18,000 per cycle (given every 28 days).
We investigated the patenting strategies around Revlimid. Here's what we found:
📄206 patent applications have been filed
📄117 patents have been granted
These granted patents amount to 42.9 years of patent protection, approximately 2X the 20-year limit intended by the U.S. patent system. They have been used to block unlimited generic entry until January 2026, providing up to nearly 6 years of extra market exclusivity.

❌ The ORPHAN Cures Act protects Big Pharma profits at the expense of patients and taxpayers. Congress should reject this loophole and pharma giveaway in order to keep Medicare drug price negotiations strong and put patients before drug company greed.

As a consequence of the Hatch-Waxman Act, pay-for-delay deals between brand-name and generic drug companies have proliferated.
A pay-for-delay deal is when a brand-name drug company compensates a generic competitor to stay off the market so that both companies can instead split the brand-name drug’s continued monopoly profits. These types of deals are illegal but brand-name drug companies have developed new ways to transfer value to generic competitors that are much harder for regulators and courts to detect.
Pay-for-delay deals are one of many ways brand-name drug companies exploit loopholes in the Hatch-Waxman Act to maximize profits. @profrobnfeldman estimated that pay-for-delay deals alone may cost the U.S. population up to $37.1 billion per year.
Listen below as @DavidP4AD, patient advocate and founder of @P4AD_ , explains how @bmsnews used a sophisticated form of a pay-for-delay deal to protect its monopoly on the cancer treatment Revlimid.

Trump has criticized pharma for high drug prices, but it’s unclear what policies he would support. He has now backed off the one policy he previously supported, tying U.S. prices to other countries.

Hardworking Americans in Texas and across the country pay too much for prescription drugs.
I want to put a stop to it.
Today the Senate passed my bipartisan Affordable Prescriptions for Patients Act, which would help lower drug prices.
