Note its the big Grn to Lab swing that has enabled them to take this seat from Ref, whose vote is unchanged

You & Yours is a superb consumer programme with first rate reporting, especially on scams & the cost of living , with a host who has genuine empathy for the listeners so YES, let's axe that to fund another vacuous celebrity podcast.
BBC to cut raft of Radio 4 programmes including You and Yours bbc.in/473sVLE

I’m sorry to say the BBC is committing multiple acts of self-harm. Current senior management do not seem to understand that in the changing media landscape the BBC should still be providing content the commercial sector is unwilling or unable to invest in.
Sorry to inform you that @BBCFreeThinking (and Thinking Allowed) have been cancelled as part of cost-saving measures. Last show will go out in April. bbc.co.uk/news/articles/cmly…

My take on Archer and the champagne quaffers who turned a blind eye to his crimes and failed to ask him tough questions. British luvviedom and the British establishment at its sycophantic worst, and it's continued throughout today.
"That conversation illustrates the complexity of Archer's life..."
@MichaelLCrick and @nadhimzahawi discuss the good and the bad that defined Jeffrey Archer and how he will be remembered.

So Kemi Badenoch wants to pay for new prison cells by cutting £1bn from culture, media and sport?
That means youth clubs, leisure centres, sports pitches, arts projects and music venues, places that give young people somewhere to go and learn teamwork and self discipline, all of that: gone.
That’s not tough on crime, that’s building a pipeline into the very prisons you're promising! And this from a party that added fewer than 500 prison places in a decade, and left communities like mine fighting to keep leisure centres open in the first place.
Disgraceful.

The BBC, UK's Public Broadcaster, is paid for by its licence payers. The BBC should be supporting UK writers, actors, musicians and all creatives especially during these difficult times. Ban the use of AI in BBC programme making, or who's the BBC for?
#BBCLauraK: “Would you allow a programme to be made and presented by AI?”
BBC Director General Matt Brittin: “I would do, within guardrails”

Kemi Badenoch described a small tax on very sugary products, designed to make the most unhealthy foods marginally more expensive, as “too much nanny state” but now wants the government to dictate how people can or can’t spend their money.

Irony: the Spectator is edited by he who brought in the curriculum that has helped to put children off reading for pleasure.
The real reason children no longer enjoy reading.” Mary Wakefield has a theory in the latest Spectator. Instead of screen addiction, she blames school curricula which teach “to the test” rather than reading for enjoyment. Children are so busy analysing brief extracts, they can’t enjoy the book as a whole.
I read incessantly as a child, including illicitly when I was supposed to be sleeping. Not “great literature”, it was Dr Dolittle, Biggles, Bulldog Drummond, Just William, Arthur Ransome, Percy F Westerman. It would certainly have included Harry Potter if he’d been around then. I don’t believe I ever had my “comprehension” tested. I just loved reading.
Is Mary Wakefield right?

On a night when #Sunderland football club showed Europe and the world what that city really is - proud of its past, optimistic for its future - the local Reform-led Sunderland City Council were squirreled away voting to withdraw support for @SRTRC_England.
Imagine being Danso, Reineildo, Nordi, Sadiki, Diarra, Fofana, Isidor, Brobbey et al and waking up to learn that the city’s political leadership did that last night, of all nights.
Those Reform guys don’t speak for Mackems across the city and around the world.
They should rethink that mindless vote immediately. #SAFC

Visiting Portsmouth’s @RNLI was one of the most humbling experiences. Local folk putting themselves in harms way to save lives. Last I visited them they had rescued over 30 people that year alone. Portsmouth’s station may now be temporarily closed but RNLI volunteers are still providing live saving cover. Carrying on, doing their duty by us. Thank you to each and every one of them.

The RNLI is a charity that exists to save lives at sea. But recent events have generated deliberate misinformation and a misunderstanding about their purpose and lifesaving work.
As a result, some of their volunteers and staff have been the subject of online and, in some cases, physical abuse. The Portsmouth Lifeboat Station is currently closed as a result of this and the violent disorder.
I have met with the RNLI Chief Executive to offer my full support for their vital work and continue to liaise with our local Lifeboat team.
The RNLI's people represent the very best of society and our city. They dedicate themselves to rescuing people they've never met before, without judgment, fear or favour.

We're proud of the lifesaving work our volunteers do in the Channel – we make no apology for it. Those we rescue are vulnerable people in danger & distress. Each of them is someone’s father, mother, son or daughter - every life is precious. This is why we launch:

Spot on. It makes them all look like best mates. BBC bigwigs need to get a grip on this. In my book broadcasters sjould never address or refer to politicians on air by their Christian names. It's unprofessional. They'd never have said Laura asked Margaret, or Ian (Paisley).
David Souter retweeted
Our charity exists to save lives at sea. Our mission is to save every one. Our lifesavers are compelled to help those in need without judgement of how they came to be in the water. They have done so since the RNLI was founded in 1824 and this will always be our ethos.
